a good idea to talk to the neighbors about your party before hand? so they dont call the cops or what not? good idea or bad? ups or downs? what do you guys do?

Depends on your neighbors, but I'm going with a yes. Give them your cell phone number, tell them to call you if anything becomes a problem, and you'll take care of it. That way they'll consult you before calling the cops.

unless you know your neighbors really well, i wouldnt do that...it could backfire and they could call your parents, cops

-just make sure people carpool a shit ton, so there aren't 20 cars at your house and only 20 kids.
-if possible have people park at another house/parking lot and walk to your house if possible
-make sure kids smoking butts outside aren't too loud/ everyone who isnt smoking gets in the house
-put your parents booze someplace safe cause punk asses will take it
-if your partying in the basement, cover all the windows etc. in case cops come
-don't let cops in unless they have a warrant
-dont let anyone drive drunk.....hard to do but if they get fucked up then you/your parents are liable
-keep the noise down

Very good party advice. One more thing to add, HIDE ANYTHING OF VALUE. I don't know about you or your friends but parties in my neighborhood pretty much stopped happening for a little while because one group of friends would always get tipped off about a party, show up, steal a lot of shit, and peace.

yeah if there are locks on the rents room its probably best to lock that up

also we lived about a mile from a little strip mall, so people would park there and then take 1 car to the house, and do a few trips like that, and then everyone would spend the night there, so there was no driving under the influence

Good advice, also hide anything breakable too. I was at a party last weekend and trashed people plus breakable objects/any kind of table doesnt mix. They will run into shit and it WILL get broken.

Id definitely tell them. Old(er) people love honesty. Imagine if YOU were middle aged, and started hearing all this loud music at night. What would be better? Just hearing it all of a sudden, or having prior warning to it?

A few kids down the street from me sent letters to everyone in the neighborhood that they were having a graduation party with loud music at night. Nobody called the cops, nor did the cops come.

Definitly hide things of value,

a couple weeks ago, a kid at my school had a party and intended it to only be around 40-50 people.  It ended up going around 140-150 later, and this is a senior highschool party im talking about.

kid got his xbox jacked, two windows broken, etc.

so hide your shit and keep an eye on the door so that you know how many people are coming and going. Unless you are aiming to have 100+..

i have friends who will have a party, and basically their parents are home and dont care if anyone is drunk, as long as no one drink AT their house (they always end up drinking outside the house anyway).

so the parent call the cops before hand to warn them about the party, so cops dont get the "there is a party down the street! hurry! there is heroin everywhere!!!" and flip out about it.

ive had many small parties, with homies and what not, but i had a party where like 200 people showed up, and cops were called...so thats why i was asking, if i wanted to have another rager...

unless you have a good relationship with yoru neighbors i would not ask if they are cool with it. becasue they probably are not.

i would reccomend just going for it. if the cops come just hope there are not a ton of underage kids there, they probably wont do much but warn you or just  break it up.

if under 21 do not admit that alcohol will be used. say fuckin a bunch of your friends from choir or band are coming over to watch the lion king 4 return of simba and you guys are having hawaiian punch so things might get a little out of hand. maybe give your cell # so they can call you if they think its too loud and you need to quiet it down.

if over 21 just inform them of the potential party and parking obstructions that may be occurring like you would if under 21, and just give them your cell # and tell them if they think its getting too loud or any concerns to call you.

then you setup a working relationship with your neighbors about this. Most neighbors are fine with it minus the drunk people wandering around pissing everywhere, smoking weed everywhere, people who do not realize how amazingly loud they are while outside smoking on the porch. obviously drinking alcohol with minors in front of open windows in the front of the house. and PARKING OBSTRUCTIONS, aka your friends don't give a fuck and park everywhere they damn well can, including lawns, and neighbors hateeeee your friends who slam car doors loud at 2:27 in the morning.

also your music. i suggest you do an outside music test if you haven't done so yet to verify acceptable music levels. although remember that when you test your music it is daytime, and it seems naturally (the ambient "world noise") is louder. So remember at night time you can hear a dime drop and gauge accordingly.

sparknotes - get a good relationship with your neighbors, give them your cell. you'd rather them call you to bitch than the cops.

I am like 3 months away from 21... over breaks if i do have parties i do let people know but normally if i do tell my neighbors they come over and drink lol but they are sick!

it depends on how old you are but if youre 21 i dont think so, i threw a rager a month or two ago and im 18 and the cops busted it, and i was too gone to even talk to em. so if your not 21, talk to the neighbors and make something up like your buddys movin away or somethin, and dont be an idiot and be able to talk to someone at the door if it happens

-Lock all the doors.
-Don't let people who you do not want in, in. (It can get out of control quickly).
-Put away the Xbox's, Ps3's, any valuables atleast for the night.

I love going from this stuff in high school to college and not having to worry about neighbors within blocks away.

to the OP...as already said- I wouldn't bother with it. just take the extra precautions if you think it may be a problem to limit the traffic outside/noise in general.

granted im 21, i have a bunch of partys with out under age kids. never had a problem, never been more then 30. Just make sure that the people that come over are legit.
