Alright i think pretty much everyone here misinterpreted tanner.

He is saying that the well paid pros that have access to that kind of skiing should be doing it, not skiing on fucking ice for fun.

If I were colby or simon, who are arguable two of the most famous skiers, I wouldn't spend a single hour skiing park. I would be out in the BC filming some REAL skiing, and traveling to where the snow is the best. Park is for days when the snow sucks. If the snow doesn't suck why the fuck are you in there. You can do all the same things skiing real mountains as you can skiing park, only with better snow.

As pros, these skiers generally have access to a large amount of travel money. Tanner's question is why do they use than money to sit around keystone training for the x-games when they could be travelling to wherever the snow is the best. I feel that it is a waste to spend that kind of money on that kind of skiing.

 I don't think this is directed towards the newschool movement or anything that people are bitching about here, but I feel that a lot of people could take it to heart and not spend all of their time in the park. Even on the east coast, which is where people bitch about how there isn't anything other than park, you can usually find some cool spots to do something creative instead of seeing how many more spins you can add onto your trick.

Also, stop bitching about how heli skiing costs a bunch. A few elite pros get to go heli skiing on company money each year. The others are using snowmobiles or skinning up to get to the "Real" skiing that tanner is talking about. You don't have to spend 7000 dollars to go big mountain skiing. You can do it for free. All you have to to is get off your lazy ass and skin up there.

Fairly sure Peter Olenick went to Alaska and killed it with TGR several years back. Simon had a backcountry segment in Everyday is a Saturda, and they looked like pretty man sized things. Just saying.....

i actually agree with him although i do think park and rails is real skiing as well but what i would strive for in life is to be able to ride pow and big mountain lines all the time its just not going to happen but, i definitely didn't like how he was calling out the guys on the forefront of the park game because he aint there no more

wow  tanner has a lot energy when he talks...

seems like its cool now to be a big mountain skiers , in 10 years people will all be skiing pow and jon will laugh at us saying that race is cooler .... why dont we just do what we want ... at the end its just siing.

Way to shit on the only reason you're "famous". The only reason you can ski all over the place, the only reason you can get to France to watch other people ski, the only reason you have your money is from park riding. this is so true ^^^^^ He's really coming off as a total dick in this movie. sure hes blazed off his ass but still to call out some of the best in the business like that. real skiing is what you do when you put boots on your feet and attach skis to them

who's to say what kind of skiing is better or real? its not affecting tanner in any negative way, so why should he be complaining about it?

last time i checked, you cant slide a dub kink in the backcountry for do a dub cork 12 without having a high risk of injury in the backcountry...

maybe the reason simon chooses to go to keystone and work on his skills is because hes not some high school drop out who sits on his lazy ass all day with a fake french accent smoking weed and having no ambition other than to not care (if thats an ambition at all)

maybe some pros like simon and colby, who are bright people, have goals like winning the xgames. you feel like its a waste, but they dont

who's to judge which kind of skiing is better? if theres a "better" kind of skiing, then why ski at all? what if football is a better sport? shouldnt you not be so focused on skiing, because you have the opportunity to play football?

Some of these well known pros make their career(thousands of dollars!) skiing park. easy to say they should ditch and embrace real skiing.  Tanner Hall didnt just drop competition, he dominated for years and moved on.  I dont even think you could say that simon or Jon ever dominated, Jon has his own priorities like any other big name.  These guys have got to be training, because if they dont someone else will, and they wont be able to afford freedom 35.  Tanner and Candide are both exceptional cases of huge success at young ages, and received the relative freedom to choose their own path through hard work years ago, sounds insane right, but some athletes actually have to treat skiing in too many ways like a job.
Tanner wants these guys to do whats best for his vision of the sport, he wants the best of the best in this arena now.  If everyone rushes into the BC at once theres gonna be a mortgage crisis... on mammoth condos.

very true!!

On that same note, Candide and Tanner have similar legacies of dominance in many aspects of skiing, but not once I have I ever heard Candide spout off like that. Candide trains hard and lets his skiing do the talking, which is exactly how it should be.

I'd be stoked if Tanner focused his energy on rehabbing and getting back out there to try and catch up with Candide who is clearly on a whole new level of ripping lines.
