Skiing in Arizona??

Im going to Arizona on thursday bringing my skis with me in hope to find somewhere to ski while im out there.

Ill be in Chandler , some people have informed me of a place called snow bowl ? or somthing like that

was just curiousif any of you guys have ever hit up arizona and what the skiing is like there

isn't Arizona just desert? maybe not all of it but i spent a morning in Phoenix waiting for a connection to denver and it was pretty warm.....

actually i want to join the OP and ask can you ski in Arizona?

yes you can ski in arizona. snowbowl is pretty close to flagstaff. ive never skied there but ive driven past it a number of times.

always wanted to ski in AZ, seems like it must be pretty heady to ski in the land of the Navajo and Anasazi.

You basically have two options within 3 1/2 hours of Phoenix - Snowbowl in Flagstaff and Sunrise in the White Mountains.  Sunrise is the worst run business of any sort I have ever had the misfortune of frequenting (and I have a business degree), but there is some decent terrain and the snow is really nice and light if it comes.  Snowbowl is a much better run area, but it is extremely crowded on weekends, plus it is small and will have very short seasons some years.

I guess there is technically Mt Lemmon as well, but I wouldn't really even consider going there if you don't live right nearby in Tuscon.

wish i remembered the name, but there is one about an hour and a half from the south rim of the grand canyon. tricky season in arizona. at some mountains they are not allowed to blow snow because of native american tradition and have to rely on natural snowfall.
