Sony Vegas help

I'm experiencing some difficulties with vegas pro 9.0. I searchbarred, read some posts relating to vegas, but couldnt find a solution to my problem. i even posted my problem in those threads but no one answered.

Here is my problem: When i drag clips onto the timeline to make an edit, and then press Play to preview what i have so far, all i see is a black screen. after i press play, i know the timeline is playing because i can see the cursor moving along the timeline. The audio plays, but i just cant see anything but a black screen as far as the video goes. does anyone know why this is happening?

by the way, if the solution to this problem is really simple and obvious to all of you, well i'm not really experienced with computers and this is the first time i play around with editing software so ya.

try selecting all the  whole timeline and then shift+b ( which basically captures all frames and plays them in the dynamic ram preview)

see if that works but i have never has that problem so idk really what to tell you

Are your shots in HD?
Because if they are, your computer might not have a big enough graphics card so it does not have enough power to edit the video.

no, they're not in HD. I used some random footage at first, and then i tried with just the sample videos that came with my laptop. its trippin out

that is weird. i don't use vegas so i don't know any of its features and what not..... is there any way that you could preview the video in a lower quality?

lol i have no idea. but that's the thing, i forgot to mention that when i first started using it, it worked fine. now this happens all the time. so i dunno if i clicked something accidentally or did some next shit. if no one knows how to fix it i guess i'll just have to re-install it and see if it works

ya then i don't know.
I think that would be the best thing you could do. if that does not work, try and contact sony for some help.

mmmh; make sure your footage timeline isn't muted (the blue circle thats crossed out)

otherwise; did you remove or reinstall any of your directx or java components or anything else that might be required to run vegas?

this might also be a long shot; but sometimes it works; when using vista; right click the vegas icon and "run as administrator'
