Decisions, Decisions, Decisions...(POWDER SKI EDITION)

bentchetlers skied them for a day to test them out this ski rips.

I paid like $250 for a pair of Ninthward skis, and supposedly you can find them for less even. This is brand new...

They were 113 under foot, regular camber. But they are great powder skis made by probably Elan (made in Slovenia on skis). I added some Griffin's at the all-mountain stance and set them to 8 cause I like my ACL and MCL the way it is.

These skis ripped on those powder days in Utah, and worked fine even on the tracked out days. Although obviously an 80-90mm ski would have been a better ski for those days, just less to carry around on your feet. Now the downside is they are 08/09 skis. I didn't buy them based on looks and they are ugly as fuck to be honest. None of that fancy early tip or tail.

You had to lean back with the ski kind of to ensure "full powder gliding", and they would really take off. The fact of the matter is the dimensions of this ski are very similar to many other pow skis from say Volkl, Armada, K2. Not to say they perform the same, but the skis are made out of the same damn presses (excluding K2/Line, ON3P, Moment,DPS)....how fucking different can they be?

I live in Michigan, ski out west a time or two a year and I had a low budget because I ski on whatever terrain the west has to offer and its variable conditions. Anyways, I love these skis because you can just charge over damn near anything. Bumps, crud, everything...and regular camber has more edge contact in comparison to some of the rockered skis (but they come in like 193 length and shit to make up for this too). So its all good in pretty much all conditions. And everyone knows your a powder hound when they see you on the lift.
This all depends on your perspective on what skis you should get. I would buy some Surface Live Lifes or JJ's, Bent Chetlers, or insert random new awesome powder ski of the week, but I can't look out my back door and say what skis should I take today.

i'm approximately the OP's size and they're awesome. i've skied them in the park and they do everything with not a whole lot more effort than my park skis. they carve excellently and kill it all over the mountain

if you're not looking at something quite as extreme, then check out the JJs for sure. i've heard a lot of good things about them.

I would read one of the reviews of Billy Goats on this forum or TGR, and then go buy them.

Ive never skied ninthwards, and i try to avoid their site because reading white text on black background hurts my head like a bitch, but i digress.

I dont mind ugly as fuck skis, Ive painted every pair of skis ive owned anyways. (Just finished my park skis for this year, rocking two phat 9mms on each, looks so ill)

Im especially pleased with that pricing, here I was thinking that i was gona have to spend 500-600

MY BUDGET IS ANYWHERE UP TO 600. I CAN GO ABOVE 600 BUT I REALLY DO NOT WANT TO.

Yeah uhh double check the dimensions too. Ninthward's site had the wrong dimensions for the rory silva pro's for the 08-09 stuff.

Ninthward owes newschoolers money for unpaid advertising dollars if what I have read is right. TGR might have the password to some of their special deals. And when they first came out I believe people had some bad experiences with them.

But for $250 friggin bucks.......

i hope the ns/ninthward beef has been dealt with.
sounds a little blown out of proportion on both sides from what i've heard.
but like the guy above me said, you can't beat their deals.

it'd be good if you (the OP) were more specific about what you want in terms of rocker, sidecut, width, etc so we could make more informed suggestions.

my friend bought a pair of rorys from 07 i believe and paid 100 bucks for em. they were used with one mount but for that price he added some 40 dollar pivots and boom had a 110 mm pow ski for less 200 bucks. they felt very stiff when i flexed em but he said they haul ass like none other. they also felt a bit heavy but thats pretty much a given. in all honesty i would look into blends they are very versatile. ive seen em dominant in pow in head for the hills and dominant in park in traveling circus they also rip groomers and trees like no other. see if you can find em used for cheap cuz they run 600 new

Armada JJs, they kill it everywhere. And if your not skiing too deep of pow, Line Elizabeths are awesome in trees, on groomers, and in a fairly small amount of pow. (More than a foot or so and you start too want rocker.) The JJ sounds the best for you though, theyre a super fun ski in all conditions, from ice too deep stuff.

having been a park rat all my life, skiing backcountry only 7 days a year at Alta, i have another question

I want rocker, because Alta has ridiculous powder, but does the rocker effect carving all that much?

surface one life's (aka live life 2) are so awesome all over the mountain for a pow ski. i broke my park skis last week and spent 3 days cruzing the entire mountain, including the park, and they were awesome. And 3 weeks ago i took a trip to wolf creek with them and they changed how i viewed skiing. the float is incredible and they can dart in between trees like slalom skis on a groomer. and they crushed though the crud pretty well for being a relatively light ski.

i have bacons and they rock for a non rockered option, forgot how tall you are but i wouldnt get if ur over 6 foot

Everywhere i read i see Armada JJs. Good in Pow, trees, and some steep groomers?
