Nike skis.

Hate as you may but I have always wondered this. Why has nike not stepped into the game, I personally would never buy them but with Nike in virtually every other sport( i know they make outerwear) im surprised that they have not made skis or boards.

i imagine that they do not feel that the market is open enough to make a break into. i mean for nike a large company to break into the realm of snow sports profitably they would have to sell large amounts of skis/boards and i feel that they are probably happy having there name on boxes and rails for now. who knows maybe in the future they'll make a move, but for now i doubt it.

not just a shoe company at all. Clothing is a given that they jump in, but they also make golf clubs, id expect to see them go into tennis rackets or push wilson off NFL footballs and NBA basketballs before attempting to conquer sking.

I was just making the connection that nike got big in those sports through the best(considered among the masses) of the sport. SUch as Jordan and Woods.

So whoever it would be. Nike would most likely go to the top like they do in other sports.

It wouldn't be a profitable market it for them. I mean look at skateboarding, they jumped in with SB a while ago and to this day aren't making decks yet. I presume it will remain that way too.

I always wondered about this to, since nke 6.0 has a ski team they should make more than just clothes but it looks like they might step in the game sometime in the future

maybe 3 years ago, you need to be at least 5 feet tall to ride for Nike too. It would never work out. Unless nike was in the business of supporting people past their prime.

I've seen skis with target in the base, i've seen skis with red bull in the base. doesn't mean they will start, it's a pretty easy thing to do. But they only make it for there sponsored athletes. Anyway, nike may get into the game with accessories, like, gloves, hats, outerwear, MAYBE ski boots, but never will they make skis.. I hope not at least.

I'm sure Nike pays a lot of people a lot of money to study whether it would make sense to invest in ski production.

And another thing, NS fails to realize that the ski industry is a small industry. There's barely any money in it compared to Football, Baseball, Basketball, hell even snowboarding. Nike isn't going to invest in an industry that they can't make a shit ton of money off of.

no. more like wallisch. nike finally figured out how action sports markets work. part of that is sponsoring core riders in order to get legitimacy. look at their other teams. danny kass, justin bennee, gigi ruf, eric jackson on snowboard boots and they had more younger guys and core skaters before they got eric koston and p-rod

it took them forever to make lacrosse stuff and what they did then was buy a smaller company and sell they own stuff under their name but have the tech copyrights and stuff of an established company much like line and K2

I hope to god nike never makes skis. It makes me sick how they can jump in a sport and monopolize it. Nike SB isnt quite a monopoly yet, but what did they have to do with skateboarding except see a business opportunity.  Nike being a huge company could jump into the ski industry by buying out a company and instantly buy out some of the top skiers to ride for them, which would cause young kids at about every hill with nike skis.  Support skier owned and operated companies.

At first I didn't believe but then I googled. the boots look so weird but whatever, SX riders get paid well, weird looking boot too. Can't believe bubba left alpinestars to wear 6.0 boots, but in the occupation of a action sports athlete you gotta make money while you can.

Nice point on the SB.  If you go back to skateboarding's roots, cats actually rocked Nikes because they had the nice flat sole and ankle support and because there wasn't really any skate shoe companies at the time.  Why didn't Nike hop on that shit back then and actually be a part of the sport?  Probably because skating was just a bunch of rebels and wasn't popular in the mainstream culture.  Now, when skating is becoming more comercialized and is blowing up, Nike jumps on it.  It's purely a business venture, I don't know how much they really care about the extreme sports.

Now that freestyle skiing is starting to become more popular, and is getting all this mainstream coverage (Dew Tour, X games, etc.)  I can see Nike maybe jumping in and making some product.  Will they truely care about skiing?  Probably not, they are a huge corporation afterall, its all about whether they see skiing as profitable or not.
