First off, this is not a thread about, "OMG I just smoked weed for my first time!!"

This is a thread, "OMG I just got busted and charged with possession of Marijuana, paraphernalia, and Minor in possession of alcohol (MIP)"

But instead of telling you what happened, has anyone else had similar charges? These are on my record and I'm concerned about what future employers are going to think, especially the marijuana charge. Has anyone has trouble or experience with this?

first of all, how old are you?

your charge really isnt shit, and seeing as none of those are felonies, its not going to fuck up future jobs.

i got felony poss 1 and 2 when i was 16 (i was at school) and got off with 16 hours comm service.

Because it was definitely the Police's fault you got caught with weed, paraphernalia, and alcohol.

I'm 19, so my record won't clear. This is also my second MIP but the first one was "conditionally discharged"

I got caught partially because I'm dumb, but mostly horrible luck. I was on a side street doing the deed and right as my buddy slipped the drugs to my friend a cop cruiser drive by and looked down the street. My fault for being dumb and doing it in broad daylight, but if we literally had waited 1-2 seconds longer the officer would not have seen.

buddy got charged with trafficking and i had intent to distribute, we both still get jobs and he just got into Uconn, sooo i guess it cant be too horrible. your charge ranks pretty low, you shouldnt have any problems

How can you insinuate from reading my thread that I am not taking responsibility, this is merely a story containing information?

I am not crying about this.

If anything I am taking responsibility, I never got my parents involved, I scheduled all my court dates to coincide with school, paid all my fees, have community service set up.

This thread is about me being concerned about my future, I feel like I am being responsible.

Look man they probably won't charge you, and if they do a misdemeanor aint no thing anyway. Employers only see felonies unless you are getting a government job. Get a public defender to help you out, they are free.

Yes, you're right.

The job prospective that I was hoping to work at over the summer, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL, if anyone has heard of it) most definitely will care.

Guess it's more of the town I grew up in where these are serious charges.

Putting it this way from my last MIP, the generous police beat informed my town of my activity, and a lot of parents think way differently of me / don't let their kids hang out with me. Not that I give a shit, but that's an example.

Yeah he's right, you aren't going to be carrying a gun or saving lives so they probably won't give a fuck. If you are really worried about it have your public defendant put in a request for deferral. You can get it deferred for like 5 months and then you won't get charged till after you get the job lol.

Don't really think thats necessary though and it generally helps to have a recommendation from the arresting officer for the deferral. I'm not sure if a public defendant could do that for you.

Just be smart about things. I mean drugs shouldn't be illegal in the first place, the drug war is retarded, but they are illegal right now.

Passing "drugs" around in broad daylight with a police cruiser within view is a bad idea. That not really bad luck,  You didnt get extremely lucky. But this would have been ridiculously easy to prevent.

Here's the good part though. A upm won't ruin your life. No charges are good, but you'll be fine.
As long as you learn something from it and try to pass that on to your buddies. Maybe using a car or doing it at someones house is a better idea.\

I am fortunate enough to not have to worry about financial aid or students loans. I have two 529 accounts that have been growing since I have been born. I'm super super lucky.

I'm not sure what "defer the charges" means, but I have already been sentenced:
$400 dollar in fines and court fees, 30 hours community service, and one essay.

I spit the judge some bullshit, and worked wonders.

A reference to a "deferred sentence" is normally to a sentence where, if the defendant successfully completes a period of probation, the charge is dismissed without a conviction being entered. The result is that the person can truthfully deny having been convicted of the underlying criminal offense.

thats what i need since i will hopefully be working in healthcare, wich by the time i graduate, will be most likely be for the government. since i was only caught with 0.04 ounces this will be easy? my court date is feb 9th.

same kindof shit happened to me...i was going home from a party and got pulled over with a buddy...i had had around 2 beers like 2 hours before so i was in no way drunk...i blew .03 which tech. is an underage and not a DUI because its not over .08 so i got lucky and just got stuck with an underage...he also found a flask, my piece, and like .2 grams of nug on me haha...none of that added up to anything else and because it was my first offense i got $175 fine, 5 page essay, and 1 trip to the drug/alcohol counselor...not too bad if you ask me but it still sucks

i dont think this goes on my permanent record for jobs because it isnt a federal offense...if i dont get caught for the next two years it's erased totally from my record or whatever...ive got one more chance fir diversion but hopefully i can keep it clean until im 21

Good news and bad news.  Good news, after your probation ends you can petition the court to drop the charges.  Costs some money tho, like $200.

Bad news.  While you can be president of the US with a bunch of misdemeanors, many menial jobs wont hire you, for instance circuit city does background checks, and while the application says "having a criminal record will not necessarily prevent you from getting a job", it will. 

In other words if you want to flip burgers, you are fucked.  If you want to be able to destroy the whole world with nuclear weapons, doesnt matter if you have misdemeanors.

If you don't pay the couple hundred after your probation ends I am pretty sure misdemeanors only stay on your record about 5 -7 years. 

Don't know if LL will care about MIS, but some places that you think would WONT, and some trivial piece of shit jobs will.  For instance you  can have a couple of misdemeanors and get a job as a cop, some fast food places wont hire you.

this thread is useless because each state has different laws, and each county in each state will differ in how hard they are on petty crimes.

Some states you're driving away with a summon for court for getting caught with weed, some states you are spending a few hours in the cooler and getting your car impounded. A portion of this site is from Canada even.

You should speak to your local friends about the police situation and what to expect. As you will have the best knowledge of just what happens to people in your county.

just don't keep getting fuckin caught. 2 dui's in america and getting in to canada even can be difficult. pissing in public in some states puts you on a sex offender list, meanwhile some 4 year old kid and has dad both had their dicks out at the canyons on a groomed run taking a leak under the fucking lift and 3 ski patrol were ahead of me on the lift probably dickin around themselves.

Unfortunately I was a stupid little shit when I was a teenager/young adult and managed to acquire a class x felony and a few other misdemeanors. However, I had no problems getting in to college/grad school, or with getting a job. I passed the background check for a DOD job with VERY high security clearance even with this stuff on my record.

Just be honest on your applications in the future. Don't lie because they WILL find out...especially with information being as readily available as it is in this day and age. If you try and BS them, you're really only screwing yourself because most employers will immediately disqualify you from consideration when they find out you lied. You can even lose your job years later because you lied on your initial application. The legalities behind some of that are pretty intense.

A lot of people make mistakes when they're young. Employers realize this. You'd probably be surprised at how many "responsible adults" with prestigious positions have a skeletons in their closets. It's actually pretty crazy.

Thanks factory81! I unfortunately had to read down the entire length of the thread to find ANYONE that even remotely asked what state he was in. Unless for some odd reason all of you guys know him and where this was, you have NO IDEA what the punishment or fine will be. Im finishing up my criminal justice degree and already applied to an academy dude, and im still not going to comment on whats going to happen to you because I have no clue without knowing all the facts.

NS is a great place to come for a lot of stuff, including advice. But if its a legal matter, don't hesitate to call your local police station and ASK THEM what is going on with your citation. Or, like a lot of people do that don't have chat rooms to go to, call a lawyer.

stupidest shit happened to me. i got caught with 6 grams of tree , 10 grams of hallucinogenics etc. got charged with intent to distribute. all bc some asshole saw my key chain and i had a pocket  knife on it and they thought i was like going to try and kill some one...
