So far i'm not really an expert big mountain rider but when i'm scoping out lines i just focus on the outline; where it's ok to go; where i should stay away if i wanna live, etc.
remember some waypoints that might be visible from the top such as a distinct rock sticking out, trees, couloirs, etc....
then on the way down i just make sure i'm skiing in the "safe zone" and all the rest is just improvisation, you know theres nothing "too big to handle" in your route...
( cause you've determined a "safe zone" and try to stay inside it....)
so just huck cliffs that seem huckable from above and stick to your previously anticipated route even if it's going too easy; you can still throw some backs of small bumps if you're getting bored....
