i got about 500 buck to spend on a new guitar. i wanna get an ibanez artcore and an acoustic. i dont have an acoustic and i have a reagular ibanez electric already. what should i get?
have you ever played an art core? why do you want one? Do you have a fetish for ibanez? what styles of music do you play? All of my ibanez playing friends play metal.
you should be able to get into a decent martin for around 500. I got a DCME which is a little out of your price range but I absolutely love it. I've played a lot of really expensive guitars and mine just beats the hell out of all of them. seriously nothing plays or sounds like a martin imo.
But if you want more options you could also get a fairly nice seagull for around 5 or maybe even a taylor (although they're generally upwards of 6). sounds like you're an ibanez fan but I've never liked their acoustics at all. honestly I would stay away from ibanez if you want to get an acoustic--I've played a couple of my friends' and demoed a few at guitar shops and their tone and playability is sub-par as far as I'm concerned
yeah there is no way id get the ibanez acoustics. ive been thinking about taylor for a while and maybe breed too if i get the acoustic and not the artcore
yeah taylors are really nice. If I was in your position I would definitely not get the artcore and get an acoustic/electric instead. more than half of the acoustics you find at guitar shops these days have pickups in them. I think that's your best option--that way you have the acoustic but if you ever want to plug in when you're jamming with friends/playing open mic/etc. you always have the option. A taylor with a pickup and pre-amp equalizer is most likely gonna be more than 500 though
another thing that i forgot to mention is that if you find an acoustic that you like in your price range, you can always add a nice fishman pickup later for a little over 100 and make it into an acoustic/electric. that might be something you might want to take into consideration when you're looking
I have personally found that Alvarez makes amazing acoustics for their price. Martin and Seagull have some nice cheaper models as well. Personal preference here, but I hate Ibanez acoustics. Every one I've played (many) has felt pretty dead, even compared to my cheapo acoustics I have lying around the house. They just don't seem to have that crispy-ness that is found in nicer guitars. Also I would recommend getting an acoustic pickup and a decent equalizer if you're into tapping/tech stuff.
Whichever one you get, keep in mind that getting a bone nut installed does wonders for your tone.
For electric, you're going to have to give some more info braa
I forgot- check out Tacoma acoustics. My $300 Tacoma is my #1 acoustic; no joke. It has crispy harmonics, deep bass, and great sustain. I actually like it more than many Martins I've played. Just make sure you try before you buy, because a $3,000 guitar that doesn't feel good to YOU is useless.
Also keep in mind that most guitars don't sound too well of the shelf. Almost any guitar will sound 100x better if it's set up right (fret level, intonation, truss rod, string height, nut slot, etc.) so be aware that a first impression can always be deceiving.
