India or eastern europe

any on  here got any info?

you'll find a wealth of info on these places over on tgr. here not so much.

^yep nowadays on ns all youll find are 12 year olds in dresses wondering "is it bad to be bad at skiing while skiing"

I've always thought it would be interesting to ski in the Caucasus, along the Russia/Georgia border. With Sochi holding the Winter Olympics in 2014 it won't be long before more people take notice of that area.

i remember seeing on this channel (which is now canceled) called RUSH HD, they always had documentary type deals with the matchstick crew. in one of the episodes they went to india with mark abma and mike wilson, and it was dumping the entire time and lt looked pretty cool in general. I would go to poland anyway if i were you just cause i would think poland would have more consistently good conditions than india. In the new tgr movie they go to poland and it was quote "the deepest snow they've ever skied." plus i bet in poland the eastern european girls are more DTF than the clothed up indian girls.

Sochi / Krasnava Polyana looks like a pretty sick place actually !

Apparently, the Gulmarg is so undiscovered, that most people get to name a line, because they're the first person to have skied it.

I don't know about Eastern Europe, but in the Gulmarg, you can ski a season's worth of powder in a run. You've entered the whiteroom before you've even started moving

I'm going to Jasna, Slovakia. In the Low Tatras. Has 3 free ride zones with big lines and airs. Would be pretty good for filming. Hook me up if you come, i know where you could stay. Also from SK you could go up to Poland or across to Austria or Russia. It's pretty central.

india for sure. first place i skied when i was 5. wasnt in gulmarg but in shimla, no lifts just yaks to pull you up.

foods also better and indias sick, i lived there for 4 years

i'm in mumbai, india right now and am catching my flight to gulmarg in 12 hours to do some backcountry and mountaineering with mountain tracks: curry powder guides (john falkner!).  i haven't skied eastern europe yet, although falkner does guiding at mt. elbrus. 

i'll let you know how things go in gulmarg (i'll be skiing there for 7 days).  but i'd assume it's good for filming since both TGR, Warren Miller and a few others have done major film trips to gulmarg.

i donno, the skiing at both will be incredible for sure. but culturally, i would much rather go to India. i've wanted to go to india ever since i was a wee lad. Good luck! and i'm quite jelous that you have the opportunity to do something like this!

Just headed home from India as I write.  Amazingly, I ran into Pep and Andy while up in Gulmarg!!!  Claim! (photo will come)

But... snow pack is SUPER skettchy.  They haven't gotten any new snow for about 2 weeks, and before that it was pretty minimal too.  So there is a bunch of stiff wind blown crust and sastrugi.  The layers are much weakened with large sugar layers, hidden deep under a series of wind slabs.  On the day we got there, one avalanche went in our group with a 1.5 foot crown, unfortunately, one guy busted his knee in it.  The next day a Russian woman broke both her legs and took until 3am to evacuate her out just back to the Gulmarg base.

There is no hope for snow in the next week or so, but if it does come the layers will probably get worse.

HOWEVER, should the snow come and the snow pack settle everything looks FANTASTIC.  hell, even with the worse conditions I've ever skied in my life, it was amazing.  Just to ski the Himalayans is a treat with Nanga Parbat in the background!  WOW.  Be ready for the best and longest runs of your life!

Go to Poland, really nice terrain, nice powder, but one thing.. Its not legal to go off tracks.. They seriously put you in prison for that.. No joke..

Just to clear things up, Elbrus and the Caucasus are NOT in europe, it's spread between Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Iran, Russia and Turkey, and is alot more inaccesible than eastern europe. It will however also offer much sicker terrain than eastern europe, which tend to be low, and not get much snow. I have friends who went to Iran, and they said it was epic there, so maybe try that out?
