Best laptop for video editing..

Ive been doing graphic design and web site production for quite some time now which is all created on my big hand built desktop.However as i dont have a laptop and have started travelling more for things like lectures on web production at university and media production as well as getting into ski videos, i therefore need a laptop for such demands.I however have decided against apple mac's as all my editing software is in windows format and it would be a beast of a price to get this in mac format (legally)

So does anyone out there have any good thoughts on a laptop which is small light powerful and reasonably priced great for travelling? Ski video editors out there give me yout thoughts! :)

I don't really think you laptop makes a huge difference, as long as its running speed is OK. Macbook pros and Dell Inspirons are pretty good laptops.

well a mac will let you have final cut pro, which is supposed to be the best video editing software (used by all the professionals and all that) but im guessing you just want something quick that wont be slow when youre taking video from your cam, and wont be glitchy while editing.

i have a dell studio xps 16 and i have no complaints about it. i basically spec'd it to a macbook pro though (other than the nvidia graphics card, which isnt available in any dells other than xps) and would have the mac if i had the money.

inspirons and studio's are the most common dell's and also the most complained about, as they are cheaper and often slow because of what they have in them.

my two recommendations:
macbook pro if you have the money to spend and you are really interested in film/media/arts
dell studio xps if you want a pc that will work for the same things and about $400 cheaper with a better warranty.

nice one thankyou,ive decided that im going to invest into a dell xps or sony vaio as after scanning the media forums all they have is praise about the vaio's for video editing.

i reckon the dell xps would be the better option as all ive heard is good things about their customer service and warranty strength.The idea of a mac is soo tempting but due to having all the software like sony vegas,adobe photoshop,fireworks and illustrator in PC format it would be mental just to fork out the cash for the pure style of a mac.

Dell Xps it is!
