Hv30, pros and cons?

hey ns, before i get started i wanted to let you know i did a quick searchbar and found a little info but i would like a bit more..
i have the oportunity to buy a refurbished hv30 for a mere $500. a deal in my eyes.
for three years i have put up with shitty camera after shitty camera starting with a digital picture camera to shoot video with, and currently ending with an outdated flip camera which is on its last legs.
combining christmas and my birthday cash i came up with a little over what it will cost me for the camera, which saves my paycheck this week for gas and plenty of skiing this weekend. and a little extra for a fisheye in the near future.
so my question is, should i pull the trigger? has anyone had any trouble with an hv30? seems like a pretty decent camera to me.
help me out ns, what are some pros and cons? i have to convince my dad this is the camera for me, otherwise its back to the drawing board.

I have an HV40 and its essentially the same camera. I like mine alot and ive had no problems.


I dont know much about buying refurbished though

thanks, it seems like hv20,30, and 40s are all esentialy the same, with moderate changes. any other input?

not to sound dickish, but search bar, hv 30, HD, HD camera, and there will be tons of info

Differences between the hv30 and hv40 are the hv40 has true or native 24p not very good if your shooting skiing and things with lots of movement better for short films.

Got my hv30 in june I shoot skating and skiing and I can't see I have any problems with it. No Dropouts or Glitches and iv'e done 25 tapes. Thats the only things I don't like about the hv30 is buying tapes but you can re-use them once or twice. Make sure your computer can handle the footage from your camera. If your shooting HD with the hv30 you at least need a dual core processor and 1 gig of ram.

due to the loss of a computer to a deadly virus an imac is on its way so the computer need is taken care of. i didnt know exactly what i needed, so thank you for the info, im sure it will have what i need, but its allways good to be posative. and i skate more than anything so between that and skiing i will have plenty of footage with movement, so maybe its a good thing that im not getting the hv40. what about lenses. i know the death lens or baby death is the fan favorite, but is there anything cheaper? and i prefer an open fisheye without the vig.

I would definitely pick up some extra batteries because one battery is not going to last too long in the cold. I would also invest in a good tripod when you have the money.

batteries for sure most important, tripod then a fisheye or a wide angle
