Seasonaire Jobs?

Heading out to Whistler for the 2010/2011 season and just wondering what are the best jobs to be had? i've heard that if you're a babe bar work is easy to get but unfortunately i'm not a girl but that's the sort of work i'd be keen on, or ski tech, something to maximise time on the hill. we have our accom sorted so i'd like to avoid working for the mountain if possible.

and any things we should do to boost our employment opportunities, we'll all be uni grads if that helps.

i'm trying to augment my cv a bit in the summer through an internship so wont have really be able to have two jobs. if only i had a trust fund or was just minted, and people say money doesn't buy happiness, i'd be bloody happy if i didn't have to work the whole season.

when I did a season in banff. I worked at a place that did evening rentals, so my shift would start at 230pm. So that was a sweet gig could normally ski 5-6 days a week.

however, I also support you working 2 jobs in the summer, money gets drained in these towns have a few grand saved up atleast.

If you get a ski tech job kudos....

I have 4 years ski tech under my belt in Switzerland came here tried everywhere and couldn get a ski tech job....

stuck being a lifty now haha.... Getting a job in a bar is super easy. Places like Bills, Tommys, Fish etc. hold job fairs around sept/oct/nov

Im a taxi driver in whis and it kicks ass.  You work nights, sit on ur ass and make as much as bartenders.  not to mention sexy babes, hammered getting into ur cab all night.

any specifics on the licence. for example i have a full british licence for 4 years will that be acceptable or would only north american licences be allowed?

pretty sure if you're from another country you'd need to pass your international drivers test.

You will need a BC license. Bunch of my friends have it. apparently really really easy to get hold of

Check out the full moon raves in the forest near function junction over summer

some guys set it up once a month... that shit is always good had some of the best nights of my life hanging there.

They start at like 1am and carry on til like 8 or 9am

think the latest i made was 8am so they could carry on alot longer...


but depends what your into... so much to do Whistler skatepark is pretty good.

I was looking to go out last season.
Google intrawest. They run the mountain at whistler and hold job fairs a month or two before the season begins.

I just applied for a few chalet ski guide jobs. I don't know if they have them in America/N. America though. Basically you don't need any actual qualification, just the local language, 20 weeks plus skiing experience and a good attitude. You ski 5 days a week with red run (equivalent of black diamond? or double black diamond? whichever is the easoer one)and above skiers so basically you don't get stuck with pizza slices. You get one day of a week and you one day doing transfers. Shit pay though.

just a casual bump as i get more stoked. sorry to all the work two jobs ideas, not possible considering my current job.

looking at sending out covering letters and CVs (resumes) to shops to try and secure a job before i head out. any connections in bars or whatnot would be greatly appreciated.

help a NSer out.

Finding a job without knowing anyone is whistler out of season is a nightmare. Last year I assumed that getting there in september would get me first dibs at a job... not true because it's dead season and that means that no one will hire you, even if you have massive titties and a corvette. You're going to have to wait until things pick up in november before anyone starts to hire, and it's unlikely that anyone will hire you before you get there because as the seasons change people come and people go and that's how spaces open up in work places. Just hit the village hard when you arrive and make as many connections as possible, every employer knows that your goal is to work as little as possible and ride as much as you can, and if you find someone to hire you with the same mindset, youll have a rad season.

haha so true, work less, ride more. but that's true where ever you work.

so who did you work for in whistler? i've heard back from a few shops saying exactly what you did, they aren't keen for phone interviews (bit harsh to hire on looks) and want to wait 'til i'm out there. makes buiness sense i suppose as currently they have no guarantee i'll even show.

basically someone hook me up!!  as i'm a planner and am not keen on the uncertainty of not having a job or having to be a lifty the whole season

hey guys, im 18 years old from New Zealand. I currently work at Shell (gas station) and was wondering if there were any jobs of that kind around Whistler. I wouldn't mind working up to 3 days/nights a week, just what ever as long as i got up the hill most days.

Any advice appreciated.

well... its currently 'summer' (Nth Hemisphere) so im trying to ski in NZ(WINTER!) right now. Ill end up doing heaps of hours through November but even so, i dont mind missing two days a week to work.
