Im learning how to play the piano.

Im trying to learn how to play the piano, but i dont really care about starting from the basics. I just want to learn good songs that i can play at partys or something. So far i learned how to play imagine by john lennon. does anyone have any good kind of easy songs that i should learn.

to be able to play good piano youre gonna have to start  from the basics man. Its not somethin you can just pick up real quick and start playing good songs. Its taken me 14 years of piano lessons and practice to be able to fluently pickup melodies and immediately know which key they are in and to be able to play it onto a piano. Chicks dig it so bad. I love it.

musicnotes.com has lots of easy songs. you can play the beginning of the songs without buying the sheet music too.

to be honest, while it's cool being able to play certain awesome songs, if you take the time to learn it from scratch, then you'll be able to play anything. that includes ALL the wicked tunes (without having to be picky about easy songs), as well as blasting melodies of your own.

you mentioned the most important part........learning to read music. it is essential for a good piano player to know how to read music. im sure the guy a few posts up who has been playing for 14 years will agree.

i played the piano for 6-7 years when i was younger. started with classical music, recitals the whole nine. i quit because i wanted to hang out and do bmx and god knows what else. i regret it all the time.

learn some scales and chords. that way you can improve your own stuff. its way more fun than just learning songs that other people made

I wish I could play better. I took piano lessons for like 4 years, i just didn't like it much at that age. IT was just soomething my parents made me do, so i never really cared about it

I only know how to play fur elise by beethoven, greensleeves, and the entertainer. i wish i actually knew how instead of just those songs

I would say that it's essential to understand music theory. The ability to sight read is far from necessary.
