i have a very small hairline fracture that happend dec 12th. it has been a few weeks i have been skiing on it once and didn't hit anything. i have also been walking with no pain except for the occasional bang into a desk at school. i'm going to CO later this month and was wondering if there is anyhting i can do to help it get stronger or heal faster? +K For help
This, no joke. I broke my arm when I was in 7th grade and all I did was drink tons of milk. I was about a centimeter off from hitting my growth plate in my shoulder of my right arm and that would have equalled surgery if it didn't heal properly/in a certain amount of time. Milk definitely helped.
it's kinda expensive, but if you're willing to do it, it'll reduce healing times by 30%
basically consuming milk for the calcium content is not going to help you -- milk has calcium, which is good for bones, we all know that, however milk also is high in protein. In order for the body to metabolize the protein, it requires calcium. With such a high amount of protein, coupled with the calcium, your body will actually take calcium from your bones to process the protein.
what you need to do is absorb the calcium through your skin. that's right, take a milk bath. The protein will not diffuse into your system, yet the calcium will. You could simply soak your foot/leg in a bucket (assuming that's where you've got a fracture) but to really see the benefit, you want to maximize the surface area for the body to absorb the calcium.
like i said it's kinda expensive, especially when you're supposed to do it bi-weekly, but you should be ready to ski in CO if you do this.
take vitamins
drink milk
don't ski, run, do anything that hurts
you can keep a brace or tensor on it for strength
or go to some clinical sport injury place to speed heal it.
hypobaric chamber, maybe acupuncture or chiro if its near a joint... probably won't help a tonne but it will help more than hurt
what i would advise NOT to do... is to take alot or any painkillers. especially if you're about to do something like ski or run for the first (or second) time. if you're feeling a bit of pain, you shouldnt ignore it, you should be acknowledging it. if you cover up the pain and then have a small fall, you could be in a whole lot more pain if you're not careful
This kid has it right. Also eat healthy take pills for your joints and vitamin b pills which helps increase blood flow and your stomache digest so everything gets to help ya quicker.
