Whistler Summer Camps...which one??

Im 15 and want to do a summer camp in Whistler but I don't know which one to do. I dont really care about the whole money thing. Right now Im thinking momentum or COC. What do you guys think?

Go look at the websites youl get all the info you need there.

Some basic things though

Momentum has the big jump but idk if u would hit it so...
Coc is known to have the best summer park in the world
CoC = 10=15 min lines
Momentum usually no lines.
More pro skiers at momentum
Get to shred with boarders at coc
At Coc u stay in dorms but they got better things to when not skiing like a mini ramp and big screens with video games.
In momentum u stay in a hotel but there's not a  whole lot to do.

But it's Whistler, so there is still a ton to do.  Not sure how COC runs these days, or how Momentum does it, but when I went to COC a long time ago even when I was 12 they just let us run free all through the village.  No supervision, nothing.  shit was ill.

^thats how it is in momentum, theres no chaparones most of the time, and if its your first time in whis your gonna be blown away by the village, its so sick. also be sure to hit up avalanche pizza

defs what i had after the dinners at momentum every night, best pizza of all time!

and bbasically COC has a better park but momentum has better everything else. (lift lines coaching ect)

either one u go it it will be the  best week or two of your life!!!

thanks guys. I ski in Whistler about 4 times a month and I have a place I can use. Im looking for more progressive park so it sounds like COC is the best choice

i ate that stuff everynight after the dinner, Momentum was the funnest experiance ever, the coaches sale momentum is ill i got pants from chug for 40 bucks, new empire gloves from olenick for dirt cheap. MOMENTUM is the way to go.

i say stay with the camp, itll be tons more fun cause you get to meet new people and hang out with them a lot more, and you get to know the coaches better, and its only like 500 extra

Momentum is also cheaper for a longer stay, you have all your meals paid for and you stay in a nicer hotel. Also the off day activities are soo sick, I went wakeboarding all day on my day off. And you can water ramp every day after skiing if you're into that.

I went to Momentum in the summer, it was sick, only complaint is I wish the rail setup was better.

I respectfully call BS.  At Momentum they have afternoon activities.  You can opt out of them, but nobody ever does because they're so fun.  You go to the water ramps, go to the skate park (which has a really chill concrete bowl, super duper fun), mountain bike, play paintball, go wakeboarding, hike up to Lost Lake and swim, and on the day off there is usually a massive soccer game.  Colby West playing soccer shirtless = a wolverine.  There is also other stuff that I'm forgetting. 

Then after afternoon activities, you can go hit up the trampoline...literally the epitome of sketchiness—we had quite a few kids fall off—but it's still super fun, everyone stands around the perimeter to attempt to catch the person jumping if they fly off, so everyone is talking, throwing hats and shit, talking to you while you're jumping and telling you what you did well and stuff...I was having conversations in the middle of Rodeo 7s.  There are usually trampoline games too, and if Roz (Rosalind Groenewoud) is still the trampoline instructor, it's bound to be a good time.  She's the best. 

Oh, and when you go water ramping they usually let you use the trampolines at the ramps (which we called the water ramp tramps; it rolls off the tongue, doesn't it?) which are super-duper sick.  When the Frenchies get hold, it's double-mania.  And when it gets too hot sitting out on the tramp mats (which it does very quickly), you can just jump in the water-ramp pool, or climb up to the highest ramp and jump off the edge like you're cliff diving, though you have to wear a life jacket for that. 

It's the fucking bomb.  The CoC park is sick but the lines are outrageous...Momentum is more personal, the park is pretty good (wallride is SICK), and the coaching is so hands-on.  You seriously get to know your coaches because you're with them alllll the time. 

Oh, and we go out to dinner every night, included in the price. 

But whichever camp you choose, be sure to hit up the Mongolie Grill.  It's so fucking good that I blew $30 my first night just so I could have it once (meals aren't provided on travel days).

Well the legal drinking age in Canada is 19 (aside from Alberta and Quebec) so you'd be an 18 year old at a summer camp.

i went to COC 2 summers ago and it was awesome. i was 19 so i could drink there. the dorms are kinda shitty and i had weird ass roomates so i slept on the couch in the living room area. i never really used anything COC had to offer and just kinda roamed he village with some kids i met. but either choice id say is awesome. plus the marijuana in BC is fucking epic

yeah except get drunk in the village with the locals and piss of the kids from coc who nobody likes in the town anyways. i dunno coc is for like super rich kids from ontario and the states momentum is for like dirt ass kids who really want to ski. basically tho as far as a park coc is the shit, it dosnt really get much better. momentum is set up like a mogul course and its really steep. coc is mellow and tight as fuck. but yeah coc kids are gay.

btw coc kids stay out of our fucking skate park, u have a perfect mini ramp to ride and we dont need u getting in our way with ur gay tall tees and egos that take up the entire park even tho u cant ski for shit.

Dude, it's not "our" skatepark.  That park is the town of Whistler's public park.  Anyone can skate there.

Hey Steezey,

We'd be stoked to have you come ski with us this summer. In regards to how we compare to other camps, in Whistler, you've heard most of it here already. Some things haven't been mentioned though that are important. For example our terrain is dedicated 100% to terrain park, where as Momentum splits their lane between park and moguls ( I think it's roughly 60/40 respectively). So if you are looking for some mogul skiing i additon to park, then Momentum is a better choice. If you're looking for purely park skiing, then I would say we are a better choice.

Our line up is a little busier than Momentum, but not as bad as some claim. Plus the side of the glacier that Momentum is on is a lot steeper and shorter than our side. So while you will get more park laps at Momentum, our park is longer, with more park features (including a private pipe) and a better variety and divirsity of park features. So more laps doesn't equate to skiing more park features.

Momentum does have an extra day in their session, but it's an off snow day, so you get the same number of days skiing with both of us.

The coaching program is just as personal with us as it is with Momentum. We both have the same ratio of campers to coach in our coaching groups, and we both have equally as dedicated coaches.

You'll have an amazing experience with either of us, but just make sure you take a good look at the diferences between us, and decide based on what you're looking for. Give us a shout if you have any more questions.

StartFragmentBurnbury$, what's with all the hate dude? Whistler is full of people from all over the world, all year round, which is what helps make Whistler, Whistler. And do you really think every person in Whistler rocking a tall tee is here with our camp? I saw a whole pack of dudes wearing tall tees in the Whistler park today, and guess what? We're not hosting any camps right now.

In regards income, it has no discriminating affect on who wants to ski more than the next guy, and besides, the price difference between at week at COC and a week at Momentum is $150.

lastly, I work closely with the muni and can tell you that a big reason why we have the skatepark we have, is because Whistler is a 4 season resort, that hosts people from all over the world. So don't go hating on the people that have helped give us what we have. Also I've been skating the Whistler park for 12 years, and it's no where near as crowded in the summer as it used to be, so be thankful of that.

Hey CoC guy,
     I'm pretty sure I'm heading back to Momentum again next year, but is there any way I would be allowed to lap your park just once to see what it's like?  You can see a bit from the Hortsman Hut at lunch but I would really like to actually go in it and see what it's all about.

Hey Dude,

Sorry but we don't have anything like that. Basically you have to be a registered camper with a signed waiver to ski the park, otherwise there are some scary liability issues. It sucks, but unfotunately some people like to sue and it's ruined everything for the rest of us.

I'm not sure what sessions you're looking at with Momentum, but we have had some campers do a shorter session (5 day session which works out to 3 days on hill) in addition to a session with Momentum, so that is your only option to ski both camp's parks.

There are those who try to poach. but please don't do that as it really puts a camp in a high risk situation.

Go to Momentum. The COC T-bar line is literally 20 minutes at the best. The most I waited at Momentum was maybe 5 minutes. That equates to more skiing and more epic times and progression.

I have been to both and can say that both are pretty damn rediculous.  The people at both are sweet, whistler is sweet, everything basically rocks.  I personally felt a lot more at home at momentum because some of the snowboarders at COC were just kinda unfriendly.  Not mean or anything, but just didnt want to chill with skiers.  There were a bunch of cool snowboarders but some of the boarders kinda ruined it a bit for me.  Hanging out with all the ski guys at COC was fucking ill.  Margetts, Schuster, Finn anderson and all the coaches are super dope and you get to know them really well cuz there arent that many skiers so it is a tight knit group.  I loved momentum when I went.  I heard they moved into a new hotel too so that will be sick.  the rooms at COC kinda sucked, no tv in ur room, etc.  Didnt matter much cuz you were outside most of the time, and the location of the dorms for COC kinda sucks cuz it is like a 10 minute walk down the hill to get into the village.  and there is a curfew, which of course sucks.  I think if i go back i will go to Momentum.  I love both, but the friendly skier attitude is more abundant at momentum.  No offense to either camp, both are fucking sick and you will have the most fun ever there.

Now thats not true, 20 minutes would be a busy day. Generally when camps from the Showcase side of the glacier stand in line at our t-bar, its at lunch when a bunch of the Showcase side camps are heading up to the Horstman hut for lunch, or at the end of the day when the entire glacier is peacing out.

There can be moments when the line gets really busy, but there are also times when you ride right on to the t-bar.

Hey dude, bummed to hear there were some parts of camp you weren't too stoked on. We've added another 24 passenger bus, so we'll have two 24 passenger buses lapping between the dorm and the village, so there should be no need to walk.

I've never heard about or picked up on any attitude between skiers and riders. What session did you come to last summer?

Also don't worry, no feelings are hurt. John Smart and the rest of the Momentum crew host a rad camp too!

Session D! Jea!!!! haha that was my roommate. And as for the main question. Both camps are incredibly sick. No matter what you'll have a bunch of fun. If I went back to Whistler this summer I think i'd prolly flip a quarter and go with it cause the park at COC is the bomb, but at Momentum you do have a closer feel to everyone cause your all skiers and the coaches are amazing! So no matter what you choose it's a win win situation for you.

If by Monster you mean "big", I would not say that. They had the biggest jump on the glacier last summer, and it was a Monster, but they do have smaller jumps as well for other abilities as well. The only drawback with Momentum's park is that since it's space is shared with Mogul lanes, there are less features and therefore less variety and diversity of features for different ability levels.

momentum has the biggest hit on the glacier, but coc has a rad jump line that looked soo fun.

during my experiance, on a sunny dayt on the glacier, i lapped the momentum line all day, which was 5 min tops, and when i went in to lunch at like 1, after all the crowds, the line was 30-45 mins, no exaggeration.

i went to COC for two years at it was AMAZING, so much fun. this last summer i decided to try windells, and the ONLY reason i would go to windells rather then COC again is that they had the foam pit and trampoline stuff. momentum just looks meh to me
