Switching from one plank to two planks

Hey everyone on NS first i would just like to say hi! But if you havnt figured out what this thread is about through the title im deeply considering switching from a board to skis.

I skied when i was 2-7 but when we moved from the resort town i one lived in i got out of touch with shredding the Mtn. Just a few years back i learned how to snowboard and now i go up every day i can. But hears the thing im considering switching to Skis. Why? because first most of my friends do it, second i have a really deep feeling that i would like it more (not that i dont like snowboarding) and plus i personaly feel it looks way sicker on everything.

I tryed skiing for two runs a few days back on a friends set up which really wasnt enough to fully see how i liked skiing. But im planing on borrowing a friends set up this weekend so i will see how that goes.

my question is... is it really worth it to drop all the stuff i learned snowboarding and try to re learn it all on skis?

Also is there any gear/brands you would recommend for skis/boots/binders but still are not to pricey (PS i probly will buy stuff when it starts to go on sale) because im not a rick kid and i have to put down my own hard earned dollars into the sports i love. I probly will be doing a lot of park/jump and some tree/pow and groomer stuff.

i've never snowboarded but skiing is amazing and snowboard chicks dig skier, so i'd switch over if i was you. armada, line, and k2 are some companies i'd recommend. good luck sir.

you don't have to drop anything, except the soft boots and mono-plank.  once you have learned edge-to-edge on snow, no matter on what apparatus, it directly correlates to the other sports.  enjoy the switch.

I understand... i didnt mean it that way though i meant would re learning trick be completely different or would it be easy to re learn because i know them through snowboarding. I know rails will take some time to adjust to but spins seem to involve many of the same movements.

Also thank you everyone for the comments so far and i defiantly will look into the companies that have/or will been mentioned

I did the exact thing this year. I snowboarded ever since I was 6 and I loved it, still do. But I really got into skiing last year, and over the summer. I haven't snowboarded once this season, and I don't plan on it. Also, for learning how to ski, or getting back into it it'll take no time at all. I didn't have any trouble. It may take a day or two to really start carving, but its just getting used to having two edges and the weight distribution. Tricks were not much of a big deal for me either, Id say I'm progressing really fast. One tip that I do have though is when learning to ski switch, practice it over both shoulders. I just think this helps with spinning both ways and spotting you landing.

This is my third year year skiing and I'll never go back. I snowboarded for 10 years and got bored of it...swtiched to skiing and I progressed much much more in 3 years than I did 10 on a snowboard.

It is much more expensive though if you ski alot. I'd say almost all of ski equipment is more than snowboard equipment. Boots last longer, but park skis tend to not last more than a season. It all depends on how much you ski, and how hard you are on equipment though (I beat the piss out of my park skis).

If you really want to do it, save up some cash, go to a professional boot fitter, and drop good money on boots. Then scour NS, eBay, outlets, tent sales, etc. for good deals on skis, either older new ones or half decent used ones. You can get skis and bindings for cheap and get really good use out of them, but if you get crap boots, you'll hate your life and skiing will be not only painful but harder than it should be.

Whatever you do, don't get discouraged, once you get over the hump of ski basics/technique you'll start progressing like wild.

i was considering the same thing this year actually. Im entering my 10th season snowboarding and i picked up a pair of skis. I actually sold them before i rode them though because of what my friend said to me. "He asked me what do i consider myself now? a skier or a snowboarder?"

"I answered snowboarder of course."

I'm doing the same thing. I've been snowboarding for the past 6 years and just recently I've been trying to pick up skiing because I just looks like a ton of fun and since I rollerblade, I think that I would have an easier learning curve. Just recently got some skis from a friend and have been riding PC the last few times. love it!

First of all thanks everyone for the comments!

Smooticus- I know that its a whole new animal but i think i may make the move... of course its expensive and i will of corse by all my stuff in the end of the season becausemy summer jobs only make me so much money.

Im going to be skiing again this weekend and im going to try to start to spin and slide rails now... i will let you guys all know how it works out for me.

the learning curve on skis is one hundred thousand times shallower than on a board.

if you pick up skiing, you will master it in one hundred thousanth of the time you mastered snowboarding.

yea above me is right on i started snowboarding at six and im like middle of second season on skis and ive moved way faster. all my buddies skiied and they never waited for me to put on my bindings. fuckin rude but now im better than alot of them. plus shit looks way cooler on skiis.

How much park do you ride?   Because imo, Your abilty to sense where you are in a rotation and setting a spin with upperbody are basic fundamentals for both skiing and snowboarding.  So you would definitely have an advantage there.

All i was trying to convey was i wasnt going to be giant ass big mtn shit like at Whistler or Highlands... just some mellow pow but mostly cruising with bros and hitting park...

You don't necessarily need to drop all you learned. I tried a my friends snowboard in my yard and could do threes and such. Just being on snow you learn how you move on it, regardless of what you're attached to. Sure the technique is different but you develop a flow with either that probably sticks with both.

Go skiing have fun, if it ever stops being fun (that's possible?) start boarding again. If that's not fun then nobody here can help you.
