A guide to poaching

In most cases, poaching is a criminal act. Im not a criminal, and ive always justified the bending of rules by calling them victimless crimes. If a chairlift is already running for the day, getting away with not paying for your day of skiing wont make so much of a difference. You should support your local ski hill, but if you got no money and you need to ski, you gotta do what you gotta do.


buy a ticket from someone who is done for the day. if you show up at noon, there will definitely be people done for the day. offer ten bucks, or a sob story.

use someones pass, just know their info

fake passes will most likely get you caught

bang a liftie. liftties arent always the hottest of chicks, but its worth a 70 dollar pass to take her home from the bar, and you get a warm place to sleep.

 the green pass. (some secrets need to stay secret)

the blocker is a friend who has a pass. this person is a pro at fumbling a pass and distracting a liftie long enough to sneak by

got a name tag? or a jacket that looks like ski patrol, you'd be surprised what'll work

the ski school line, help little kids that need help getting on the lift, you will never get asked for a pass, and you're doing a service anyway.

if you want to get up a lift once, you can usually talk the liftie into one ride. just hike rails all day.



-post your method, poaching the ski mountain is only the beginning. once your a poacher, long lines, closed bar parties, and NYC police barricades become part of the fun. Good luck!

you cant go rolling up to some lady like a dumb ass talking about a green pass...
but if you know you are only riding one lift, like a park chair and its dudes running shit, you can roll up without your skis and ask the dude if its cool to poach the lift while offering a phatty or small gesture of greenery... dude my look at you like you are crazed, but in some cases will be like, "ill tell the other lifties your cool..."

I always leave my pass in my jacket in the park and just ski in a hoodie. Usually I just jump over the card reader bar and no one questions it. When they do I just reply that I left it in my jacket at the park. I've never gotten called out for it, so I'd bet you could pull it off completely. I guess it depends on the resort though, I ski in verbier for reference.

yeh but i can imagine getting up there in the first place is more problematic

best option is to hunt late at night, like 3 am, and use a .22 or a small caliber rifle that can still get the job done. But if ur really into the poaching scene then id be smart use a crossbow/bow an arrow. no real sound and damn near impossible to get caught unless ur a dumb ass.

john18061806one of my friends reversed poached, he looked for people to sell his pass to haha. but if you're in a rope park you can't get caught.


False, I've been forcibly stopped by the cops at Hyland on multiple occasions. The chances are however, much lower if you play it right

This was at buck in the darker parts of the parking lot. Cops at hyland are either wicked stupid or wicked chill and do their job right. Worst experience I had with them was when they were marching around on the hill with a bright flashlight in the landings of everything, they were looking for kids who made a mess in the chalet but were going about it terribly.

Most large mountains a now instituting a poaching intensive policy. At my home mountain if the lifty catches you they get a $500 bonus. I don't know many people that will give up $500 for $10 worth of weed. Plus you will go to jail. I never thought I would be the old fart telling all you whippersnappers to fallow the rules but this is a lose lose proposition. Well you say, I only do this at my shity home mountain well if nobody pays you won't have a shity mountain to call home. Besides if you have money for weed and beer, you have money for a ticket. Now pull your pants up, turn down the loud music and get a job! Ga damn teenagers.

I just completely misinterpreted what you said. Let me have a second shot. I say it's easy to poach at hyland because almost everyone in the park has a season pass. they rarely have people checking. They might step it up next year though.

Most passes (all I've seen) are the RFID ones, so you just need to have them in your pocket or bag and you can get through. Like Alta and Brighton.

Season passes and long (7 day plus) normally have a picture that will flash up on a screen when you use them. Sometimes if you book through your hotel or something you don't need a picture though.

So just ask around at breakfast in the hotel if anyones not heading out that day, or just see who's still about at like 10. Everyone will have a pass, find someone cool and borrow theirs. The passes normally don't even have a name on them.

Alternatively, I know in France the lifts are private but the mountains a like a public park, they're owned by the government, so you're welcome to hike up if you want. Also some free lifts are alright if all else fails.
