How come snowboarders are so more creative than us?

All kids on NS say the same. "Oh, I wanna see more creative urbans." "I love TC and The Meatheads, they´re so creative and awsome."

So how come (close to) no one does it?
How come we are so far behind snowboarders when it comes to this?
Are we straighter and lamer?
Are we not FREEskiers, with the ability to think outside the box?

I´m sick of urban segments with 95% handrails.

I agree with this. I think Skiing has a lot more potential then snowboarding does, its just that they just are more creative for the time being. I think instead of urban handrails there should be more just random shit like that is in a lot of snowboarding films or like the Magic Forest Section in Wild Stallions.

Skiing is only a couple years behind snowboarding. (Freestyle, Urban wise) With people in the business like Andy Parry bringing a new creative side to skiing, its only a matter of time until we are even or above snowboarding in creativity.

Very true. A few years ago in snowboarding doing tricks one/no footed was a rarity, now full parts are done one footed (Think Thank). Soon more than just Andy Parry will do his thing, and it will be a lot cooler than fast plants and the occasional kickflip (as cool as that stuff is).

I dont think we're so much after that some of you think.
Its a huge diffrent between doing butters and presses, its an enourmous diffrent.
So much easier and more styleish on a snowboard. I dont wanna be the one who's saying skiing is so hard and stuff but really, butters and presses is a huge diffrence.
Ollies for that matter has a great advantage for snowboarders. Dont do urbans with snowboarders if you want a big jump, trust me haha.

It's cause were all slightly retarded. We just decide to hit things that shouldn't be possible but skiers think things through better.

JK, but really i don't think it's that bad for skiers. It seems like we have more options for urban on a snowboard, but then again you may be right, and I just haven't seen that many unusual ski shots

yo that trailer was sick and everything but iv seen just about all of that urban stuff done in ski movies besides the inverted wall ride thing. the tow in to up rail was done in mad movies and abunch of stuff like that awhile ago. its really sick and snowboarding urban is dope but that trailer didnt really support ur point, it was still really sick though.

If you want to think of it from a really brash generalization (I'm being completely stereotypical and theoretical) I would say it was because of the individuals who ski. Snowboarders tend to skateboard and try to skateboard when they snowboard (Scott Steven's no complies ,ect.) I just feel as though there are a lot of meat heads in freestyle skiing who are just trying to hit the biggest jumps or huck the biggest spins, relating to a level of competitive nature seen in football or other sports. NOT all skiiers are meat heads, that's just a personal observation of SOME skiiers. I snowboard, btw.

Honestly, skiers can only get so creative, because they are riding on skis. Unless it becomes more common to do an equivalent of sliding solely on the front/back tips, skiing urban rails can only go so far as more spins on and off handrails.

Skiing urban shit looks goofy as hell because of the amount of room you need with the whole wide stance that you all seem to love.

Honestly, and as much as an insult as it is, skiing is simply rollerblading on snow. Jibbing on skis is much easier than a board, you have your two feet to maintain balance, not a board.

And for the numerous people assuming the 'simple' jibs they so commonly see snowboarders doing, those are some of the most technical things you can do. Nose/tail presses (5-0) are much more difficult to do than and boardslide, even if it might not seem like it (although now there's reverse camber boards that are pretty much training wheels, but a different discussion not for here).

Put simply, skiing can only become 'creative' to a certain point due to its physical capabilities, which I feel have been met. Whether or not its the ideal thing you all wanna see your sport going, the only form of progression that will be coming are larger spins/corks/etc.

I agree with the part about snowboarders wanting to be skateboarding. But I disagree with all skiers wanting to huck the biggest thing. I think it's more of all skiers want to do the spins or tech tricks that they see the pros do. Rather than come up with something new, they would rather learn that pretzel that Tommy Wallnuts does. It's just funny that you say meatheads, just cause 'Meatheads' are some of the more innovative skiers in our time. Try Andy, LJ, and Will. Good post dude. I like that you snowboard and still take part in NS.

In the long run skiers have the upper hand,  we have two things to move around.  Skiers can press, we can 50-50, and also move our skis around in different ways.  Its harder to do some things like 50-50 and press, but they aren't impossible.

Just think for your self.

Casabon? yes, his rail tricks are quite original, and he does some sick new stuff.

Harlaut? i wouldn't say he's the most creative guy out there. I really enjoy watching him, but he is just doing stuff that other people has doen before him, i don't think he deserves credit for being innovative and original. The stuff he does on rails has been done before him by guys like Casabon, Wallisch and Hornbeck. He just does the same thing with his own style. He's not adding anything new to it. The only new thing he brought to skiing is dresses. Which he actually pulls of pretty good most of the times.

And yes i know he did a switch 16 in a competition last year, but i don't count that as progression or being creative.

I agree that skiing definitely has the potential to get more and more creative, but keep in mind that snowboarding does too. snowboarders wont stop thinking up new things just because they have fastplants and kickflips now. I think skiing will get more and more creative, but maybe in a different way than snowboarding. im sure skiers will come up with their own cool things. some already do.

Iv seen that stuff a lot. i actually board so i watch a lot of snowboarding movies. Its sick. I was just saying that just because its sick doesnt mean snowboarders in general are going to stop coming up with new stuff. Not really sure what im arguing there, just making a statement i guess.

While I definitely empathize with the sentiment behind this post, and most of the responses as well; I've got to say that we sound like a bunch of self-pitying whiners. That's not to say that I don't make the same argument on a regular basis, but I guess I'm saying that I hope we don't just complain.
We're not all pros, and we'll never be in a Level 1 or PBP flick, but even if you just make an edit of your crew doing noseblocks, or re-imagining a particular feature in your park...it'll have an influence. With NS, you've got a stage for thousands of kids to view your little edit. And I promise that if you make something fun and unique I'll toss it up on BroBomb. Go create something.

its all about the mentality.

generally i find that some skiers look at hitting the feature as is, and making it look sick. while some snowboarders look at them and look for other ways to hit them and make them look sick.

a bit of a generalization, but its what i have noticed often in both sports.

i hear ya, i love to see innovation and creativity in skateboarding and skiing alike. however, when it comes to snowboarding vs. skiing, i've always loved skiing because i feel we are more creative with it. if you want more creativity, bring it yourself instead of saying that its not there

I love that shit.

Tele is different cause there is the turn. It is not skateboarding nor rollerblading on snow...the skiing, the turns come first. You pretty much can't bust tele stuff without knowing how to do the basics of the skiing/turns first. And besides, tele turns/"just skiing" feels so good, I think no-one is going to "just jib" with the free heels (although - if someone does, props for him/her???)

so today i watched both patchwork patterns and thanks brain multiple times, a majority of my friends snowboard and t'd be really easy to get into and dabble around in i dint see the point o doing just skiing or just snowboardin theyre both fun theyre both different in their own right and both lead to a good time on the hill 
i figured i have the money saved up and want to try it out because life as a gypsy skier is really rough and ive done i before but just switched with a snowboarder for the day d had an awesome time.

in conclusion i've decided to get a snowboard and be a hybrid

80% skier 20% snowboarder
