Help With GIMP

im trying to make something like this:

but the letters i have are white blocks with letters in them and i cant figure out how to cut it out so its just the letter.

yaya i need to get PS ive just been too lazy but if anyone could help me thatd be great

haha yeah its kind of hard to put into words.

ok so i have 2 letters i want to connect like the logo i posted above. but, the 2 letters i have are surrounded with white because i cropped them in Preview out of the words they were in. So when i put them in GIMP they are surrounded by a white block. I want to cut out just the letter so i can connect the two like in the san diego logo.

i hope you get what im trying to say haha.

cut out the letters you want and paste them into a new layer and delete the old one.  i think thats what you're saying...not too sure tho.

you got it, the trouble is though i dont know how to cut the letters out so its just the letter, nothing around it

ended up just downloading photoshop and did it in a couple minutes haha. thanks for the help though
