Mounting forward of true center?

i got chronics for my mountain ski and i have salamon 1080s for my fuck around ski. i want to remount them center so i can easily just play round with them. but ive herd of ppl mounting their bindings forward of true center. what is the purpose of this?

so you can switch really well
but i wouldn't recommend it unless you plan on skiing switch more than you ski forward

No logical purpose I can think of. I've heard better switch and better grabs, but realistically its pretty useless. Skis are meant to be mounted in one place. Mount them there.

well technically if you took a non symmertrical ski and mounted your bindings backwards at recommended, youd have a ski that was designed to be mounted forward of true center

Damn! You got me hahaha. What if you got the look turntables and then mounted them with 2 toe pieces? Then you could have a normal mount, and also flip around the heel piece to have a waaaaaaay forward mount!

Idk about you but I wouldn't mount at recommended on most skis.  On my chronics is is 6 back or something,  I went center, I wanted to go +2 but the shop wouldn't do it.

yea i got the 08 chronics. i got them new so i didnt remount them or anything. but i mounted mine -2 but i feel like it goes against the geometry of the ski way to much. but i want to get better in the park this year thts why i had them so close to center.

I usually try to mount recommended. The ski will almost always be designed around a certain mounting point - flex patterns, sidecut, are all based on where you mount the ski. Although they offer different mounting points I firmly believe in having them at recommended. If you have a symmetrical ski, then mount it at center, if you have a ski like bacons, then mount them at -6 which is recommended. The ski is meant to perform best when mounted in one place. Thats not to say that you can't slay if you mount them somewhere else, its just that in my personal experience it works better that way.

in the name of god; mount your skis in sidecuts center when its asymmetrical
and mount them at true center when they're symmetrical !

don't fuck up a pair of perfectly good skis by mounting them in some position you think is better...
You wont be able to enjoy the ski to its fullest capacity.
Also dont get asymmetrical skis and mount them center because its better for jumps, i know its a legit excuse but you're still a moron, spending 300+ dollar on a pair of skis you're gonna wreck just because you didn't bother to look into the ski before buying. If you want a ski to centermount and perform at its best in centered position, please get a symmetrical ski !

it doesnt wreck the ski. it just doesnt carve as well if it was at midsole mark. and i dnt have them true center. i set them back 2. i was asking about forward of true center cuz ive got a pair of shorter skis tht i will use for in town and my backyard just to fuck around on.

It does basically wreck the ski because of core center, sidecut center, and the flex pattern, along with the weighting of the ski.

If you're using them just for urban and backyard though, go for it. I don't think they'll be as good as if you mounted them where they're supposed to be, but you can certainly do it.

it'll possibly be easier to hop on high rails but thats about the only advantage i can see in mounting forward of center...

if you want a ski strictly for jibbing and don't care about them their carving performance; just mount center (if its an asymmetrical ski, mount in weight center, the line where the ski is perfectly balanced out.)
that way the ski will have the least swing inertia.... and be easier to spin .

Yeah the last sentence there is pretty false if i read it the way i think you meant it.

Just remember OP that if you mount them forward they will feel a FUCK TON heavier!
