whoa, thats freaky. i was just thinking about making a post about this. yknow, you cant really say what u would do until you were really in the position. i bet when blink-182 came out with cheshire cat or around that time they were like listening to green day and they were like 'Man, what happened to these guys! well never be like this' now theyre getting major MTV time, writing tunes for the Nsynch crowd, and touring with the same guys theyd never say sellout. i dont care if it is the Anti-Pop tour, they are still what people would consider sellouts. i dunno what i think though. undecided

Signing a deal is fine as long as you dont change your music or more importantly who you are. BUT Because big record companies will SOMETIMES make big deals: IF you follow out guide lines like make a more 'pop-like' album because it will sell better. Thats selling out. It great to be reconized but changing your ways to be a 'superstar' isn't. I never actually had the opertunity to be famous or get chicks or to be filthy rich but I dont think I would sell out if these were offered to me. I think I am pretty much alone when I say this. Maybe because music is one of my prioritys in life. It becomes way before fame and money.

Well let me rephrase what I was trying to say and Let me use the beastie boys as an example. Of course their music changed, people music develops and matures naturally over time. The beastie boys at first were a bunch of punks taking some beats and slapping a bunch of smack talk on top of it. Over the years, they got better rythyms and there lyrics matured, talking issues that effect thier lives. I agree, thier music changed and became a lot better and definatly NOT selling out. They are still 3 white guys that love to rap and love music in general. Sure thier music sounds slightly different, but its still rap, the trademark b-boys sound. People natually change over time, they get older mature. Its the people who change thier music and lives on purpose for the fame and money that are sellouts. Hopefully you now can understand me.

Selling out is the shit. Sure your real fans hate you, but you make lots of money, and hot bitches wanna sit on you dick.

Depending on the scene selling out differs. If you are a poppy indie band or emo there is no selling out cause your sound doesnt really change. Punk bands sell out you piss your fans off when jocks come to shows. Same with hardcore and indie bands. If it is a small scene people want to hold on to 'their' bands, even if the bands sound doesnt change their old fans will usually stop liking them. Given a chance if i was in a band that could go big, i think i would do it. Why be poor your whole life to make a few hundred kids happy.
