Hey everyone!

I used to struggle from shin bang for a while. Here are the things that helped me.

1. Don't land forward, work on switch landing tricks for a while
2. Don't afterbang (after landing forward), it's a perfect way to give yourself shin bang.
3. When you do up your boot, do the power strap up around your liner, Not the outside shell. The closer your liner is to your shin the better.
4. Make 2 foam strips. Place them either side of your shinbone inside your liner. This will ease the pressure from your shin bone to either side of it.
5. Ice helps a lot.
6. Run backwards for 5 minutes a day. This will increase the size of your shin muscle, Thus giving you more natural padding inside your boot. It takes a little while to build up but once it has you shouldn't suffer from shin bang ever again.
7. Another exercise to build up the shin muscle is to do toe raises. Stand with your back to a wall. Then with your weight on your heals lift your toes up repeatedly. Feel the burn!

Building up my shin muscle has been the best prevention of my shin bang. Since i built it up, (maybe 4 years ago) I have never suffered from skin bang since.

true, some people still get shinbang with them though, i just skied 15ish days straight and my shins dont even hurt

i had ridiculous shinbang with my full tilts- then i tightened them bitches down and now I am 100% shin-bang free- same for every boot presumably

It has been said a bunch, but if you have problems BOOSTER STRAPS. I have tried everything i got fulltilts in the perfect size and got shin bang just put on some boosterstraps, and the past few days i have skied all conditions and everything nothing. Its a gift from god.

yea booster straps work well. i havent gotten shin bang since i skied park in lange L10 race boots that didnt fit right. also if there is play between your shin and your boot, thats bad for your knee.

although that definitely contributes to it, i dont think its the main cause. if you have boots that don't fit or have too much volume around your shin or stuff like that, then it can definitely be a lot easier for you to get shinbang from backseat landings... but if you have a pair of boots that are perfect, then its pretty damn hard to get shinbang even with some backseat landings.

I'm using L10s now.  Mine have a medium flex, however, and fit me perfect.  My only complaints are that they are super heavy and a bitch to get on when they are cold.  I only had shinbang once with them and that was because I didn't have them tight enough. 

If you get boots that fit well and keep them snug on your feet, shinbang shouldn't be a major issue.  Oh and don't ride backseat.

For #1 I had excess soft foam so I cut out 2 pieces and I stick 'em in there, and I also did #2. Now I have to explain to people why only the front of my shins are shaved when I go to the gym. These 2 mostly free options reduced shin bang for me by about 90%. It's not totally gone but it's been reduced to a mild pain that I can deal with. Now if I could only solve my foot arch pain from using tow ropes...

everyone always says tighten your boots and i do agree with that but is there such thing as too tight?? when i tighten my boots all the way they lose their flex and feel like brick walls in front of my shins

thats what the booster straps are for. you get super tight boots and you can still flex. they've definitely helped me out a lot

picked up mine at this bootfitter by my mtn in CO, seeing as you're in canada try here http://www.skimetrix.com/order.html --heard some good things about these ones

...they'll only do so much though depending on your problem. my shinbang got pretty bad from just a couple consecutive backseat landings, seems like the only cure for that is to try to avoid it and suck it up when it does happen

i tried this for the first time yesterday. it could not have worked better. i already had shinbang pretty badly and it barely hurt all day long. i will definitely be doing this for the rest of the season. i would recommend this technique for sure.

i just flattened it in front of my leg. i put my boots on and just stuck it down in there before i buckled them and they stayed in just fine. i didn't have to tape them or anything. i don't see any reason why a sponge wouldn't work. the beer cozys are pretty thin tho so i you may want to try a thinner sponge.

Problem Solved, I took out my footbeds and it completely disappeared. Only now my foot slides around in there.

Can you put the straps under fulltilt tongues? and do you continue to do those shin muscle workouts everyday still, or did you stop 4 years ago?

cod liver oil will help hold up the muscle to bone attachment on your shins that gets pulled when you get shinbang.

I cut out big soft pieces of foam and stuck em in front. they work great.\

From what I read in your bigger post, you might want to consult a doctor as that sounds pretty bad and painful. Most people only feel it as a minor irritant that fades within 2-3 hours of not skiing, but 2 whole days of throbbing pain? I would personally want that to be checked out medically.

i have the same problem actually. i went skiing last weekend and was trying to stick my cork 7 when i landed horrendously backseat. right after that for about 10 minutes it hurt to just put weight on my legs. then for about 3 nights after that i kept waking up to the throbbing feeling you were describing. i'm not really sure what to do, but if you read jossi's thread, it seems like that would work.
