Bindings without brakes

I got a pair of STH 12's and the break tore out beyond repair on a pre release the other day and I was wondering if it would be okay to ski on them for a day without a brake if I whip up a leash or something.  Does having no break affect releases at all?

If you rock a leash its all good, the hill won't have a problem I don't think. Then just gunna buy new bindings?

No - Breaks are pretty dumb pieces of equipment in the binding when it comes to releases, but they perform an essential job!!

Never ski without them, unless you can fabricate some kind of leash ... I once saw a ski come off in a pipe, high up a hill.... and the break didn't come down.... F88K me it was the scariest thing ever as the thing took off down the pipe, then down the hill.... the fastest thing i've ever seen. If that hit a kid or something, you could kill them....

It's scary!

My friend's ski came of on the first of a 3 jump line, brake didn't deploy, I started following it, it went over the roller for the second jump, hauling ass, and ended up hitting the third, clearing it with ease. I followed it the whole time, and couldn't keep up with it. I was going as fast as i could, and couldn't keep up. The only reason it stopped was it hit a patch of dirt and started flipping, so I was able to catch it.

i saw some guy fall on a nice little mogul trail and lose his ski
the brakes came down, but they didnt stop the ski and it just kept going and going and going and going. i felt bad, he had to go down on his ass to get it

If you go with leashes, make sure you dont Tomahawk anywhere. That would suck.

Couldn't be worse than surfing haha.

So it's okay if I just whip up a leash and go no brakes?

i once used my mountainboard leas when my brake went missing (apparently the screw loosened op and i simply lost it somewhere on the hill... (or someone stole it while i was in the lodge....)

so if you have something like that from a kiteboard or surfboard you'd be settled... you can use a carabiner or boltsnapper for quick releasing when taking gondolas....
(ps: be carefull on rails and don't put a bombproof leash around your legg, make sure it 'll brake or come off if it needs to ! )


On a sidenote: i once went looking for a runaway snowboard only to find it all the way down the run embedded almost 3inch deep in an old tree and broken in half.... you can only imagine what it'd be when it'd hit a human....

or maybe even better; go see a shop first thing in the morning; i did that too but too bad they didn't have rossi/look brakes in stock and they wouldn't lend or sell me off a complete set...

Used some hockey laces with a carabiner attached to my boot, seems like it will work perfect
