thats not 2009.
mine, is either
tegan and sara - the cure
temper trap -sweet disposition
metric - stadium love
Good thread idea. Heres what I think were the best singles of 2009, not necessarily my favorite:
1. The Opener - Skyzoo
You proabably haven't heard this song, but Skyzoo dropped an okay album this year. The opening song is absolutely amazing, it goes from like a church gospel thing to this DOPE piano playing and then the beat drops (which is crazy) and Skyzoo goes into the first song with soo much energy and the lyrical content is amazing. The theme of 'The Salvation' which is the name of the album goes throughout the song. Its fresh, just listen to it.
2. Casa Bey - Mos Def
Off The Ecstatic, Mos Def killed it with this song that brings something completely new to hip hop. The structure of the song is so innovative. Theres no like beat intro before Mos starts rhyming on it. The beat evolves throughout the whole song and Mos has a lyrical structure that seems to jump back and forth, its also dope.
3. Exhibit C - Jay Electronica
Beat is crazy, released by itself, rhymes and production work so well together (both jay). Has been named best rap song of 2009 by some sources so check it.
4. Caged Bird Pt. 1 - Zion I
Zion's the Take Over was amazing and this was easily the standout track. Amplive's production skills have reached the top level of producers and this song shows it off. Zumbi and Brother Ali drop fresh verses and the theme is consistent.
5. Already Home - Jay Z (ft. Kid Cudi)
So much hype on the Blue Print 3, and so many tracks have been played out, but this is easily the best track on the album, so much energy, dope beat, plus dat kid.
6. Up Up & Away - Kid Cudi
I know your all like, why not ____ from his album. When I hit this track (the last one?) I was like holy shit. So energetic, positive, embodies the whole album, finishes the album strong, just amazing. I also got the chance to see cudi live this year and the place was popping when this song was on.
7. Fire Wood Drumstix - J Dilla (ft. MF Doom)
Off Jay Stay Paid, one of my favorite Dilla beats destroyed by Doom
8. Nothing But Strangeness - Cunninlynguists
Real good stories (funny)/hippie van feel
9. The Opposite of Adults - Chiddy Bang
So popular, only one on the list from a mixtape, samples some gay pop song but does amazing at it, beat is killer and rhymes are aight
10. Chillen - Wale
Lady Gaga kills it. Nah I gtg eat dinner peace but this was a good single, prob doesnt deserve this spot but it was a sick pop/hip hop song
