when Mt Snow opened in October I hiked the park all day. When I try a new trick and fall, mainly on a rail, I want to run up there and retry it as soon as possible while it is fresh in my mind. Taking the chair up and then re-trying you lose the feel of what you did wrong imo.
As far as backcountry and sick lines, which i think the op is mainly talking about, I'd welcome the opportunity. I think you'd appreciate your turns more knowing you hiked it.
Why Hike when you can skin? It's a fuck of a lot easier/faster... hiking in deep snow - that's just a school boy error.... ;-)
Take a lift as far as you can go - then hike yo ass off all day long... after the Christmas eating and drinking shenanigans... i need to hike some shit!!
i hike every now and then. the only time i really do hike is when i am pissed off at myself for messing up, or want to try something really bad. but if i could i would hike alot more then what i do. mostly i don't hike because the people i roll with just dont want to hike at all, or if i do hike they just wait at the bottom of the rail. then they bitch about how longs its taking. so i just chose not to deal with it and ski down all the time.
I agree as awesome as what fat skis allow talented skiers to do they also allow people with comparitively low ability levels to access sick shit. I am one person that has know prob ripping pow on my S4's if I have to (and my powder skis are S5's)!
And get a sled they are highly recommended but be warned you might stop skiing as much.
I believe it's know
(wink)
my last run today on paleface was untracked.
Maybe soon you will get what you want, and it will be the "cool thing" to do. And gapers will cause a bunch of avalanches on the killer back country runs, and all the cool terrain will be skied off immediately.
Or maybe you will be lucky AND WONT GET YOUR WISH!
this is my dream.
i want to live out west near some good hills and do a whole lot of hiking....and snowmobiling :P
but here in southern NY, the only hiking you can do is from strip mall to strip mall.
