Meant to say that my parents are too fucking lazy to even take me skiing. They havent driven me once this year and half the time won't let me go with other people. It sucks. They see skiing as a hobby and dont care that I love it. They just want me to play lacrosse, which I hate. It sucks. so much balls. Any ideas on how to show them that its not just a hobby and that skiing is what I am going to do with my life.

man that really licks. no clue how to turn around their opinion, because opinions are hard to turn around the other way to be honest.

i realized that i wanted to ski more than play hockey so i compromised with my parents to play for the school team that is only on the weekdays so my weekends are free to ski. try a compromise if you can think of one

Does your mountain or school have some sort of ski team? My hill has a freestyle team. Joining something like that might make it seem less like just a hobby to your parents? Or just enter comps.

I always like this approach:

You: "Hey Mom and Dad, can you please take me skiing".

Them:  "No".

You:  "That's OK, I really wanted to go and hit the crack pipe anyway".

Well seeing as a lot of the NS community is not of the eligible age to drive this might not be an option for this promblemed youngster.

Approach your parents really maturely and calmy and explain to them why you like skiing and how you dont like lax. Explain to them how skiing will benefit your life more than lax and try and maybe set a goal in school or something if they let you ski more.

my parents didn't really take skiing to be a sport, but they soon understood after just talking about it the whole time and watching videos, being on NS just general chatter and banter about skiing and they will soon realise (like my rents did) that skiing is more than just a faze and a hobby...


I take it you maybe fairly young, not old enough to drive etc. sometimes you just have to live with the fact you just may not be able to go as much as you want... now i am old enough to drive/ have a job with money that skiing costs a lot of dough, so you may just have to respect your parents viewpoint and just go with the flow...

you never know they may see you're so keen and make some sacrifices to get you skiing again soon

I did an instructor course so they get persuaded to take me cos the company i work for pay for petrol even if i'm not instructing, then they just go off and do something else.

hey now, dont go bashing lax cause you dont like it. Its a great sport, skiing and lax are my two joys in life when it comes to sports.
Summer is spent on lacrosse forums and in arena or on fields, winter is spent on newschoolers and on the hills ( as much as possible)

My parents hate taking me, it's 45 minutes away. But luckily, both my parents own businesses, so when I go they come and just work with quiet.
My dad gave me 10 free trips down anytime I want from him for christmas.

Build a backyard set up in your yard, hit it everyday and your parents will see that skiing is more then just a hobby. Also, you'll have a place to ski when you cant go to the mountains. That would probably work.

do what i did....mess up your knees so bad that the doctor doesnt clear you to play lacrosse, then tell your parents that you can still ski with bad knees, you just have to take it easy... just make sure that when your knees hurt really bad you stop skiing. worked like a chanp for me... now my knees are better-ish and i am way to out of shape for lacrosse so i cant play any more.
