Mount Bohemia : Whats the word?

A few friends and i are trying to plan an extended weekend trip. We have been looking at a few places in michigan because its not too far of a drive from our school.

while researching places to go we came across Mount Bohemia. i've heard people talk about this place like its legendary but i've never actually spoken to anyone who has ever been. i was just wondering if anyone on newschoolers has ever been there and whats the real word on it.

i'm an experienced downhill skiier and really enjoy back country skiing.

any positive or negative feedback will be appreciated.

we are debating between snowshoe west virginia (9hours) and mount bohemia (11 hours).... i think that mount bohemia claims all natural snow whereas snowshoe says they make most of theirs. i feel that even though mount bohemia has a smaller elevation and vertical drop, the natural snow may make for a better skiing experience but i'd like to know which one you guys would suggest.

I used to go to school in Houghton, MI, just down the road from Bohemia. MB can be pretty rad if the conditions are right. They do get their fair share of lake effect snow, but the terrain isn't exactly what they say it is but for what it is, it's a great time. There's cliffs to be hucked, trees to ski, and I hear they've expanded some since I've skied there. I wish I could compare it to Snowshoe for you - but no dice. Honestly, for my two cents, spend some money on the state of Michigan (I hear they need it) and head up there, it's worth it.

I was going to be in michigan last year and I post over on tgr and a guy did a TR on bohemeia so I pm'ed him and this is what he said, hope it helps. Btw they probably got dumped on so I would disregard the last comment.
"Bohemia is really cool if you live two to three hours away. If I lived in NE, I'd drive to CO, UT or WY. I've had lots of good times at Bohemia and the surrounding backcountry, but it's pretty weather dependant (at least lift-served). Two years ago on New Year's Day I had a super rad time there skiing in the most severe whiteout I've ever skied in. A week before it rained hard and they were thinking of closing down until they got more snow. There is also literally nothing anywhere near Bohemia, so if the snow sucks you're kinda stuck unless you like snowmobiling or getting blind drunk.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that if you're planning a trip there you could get two feet of lake effect snow or you may just as well get pouring rain or jagged rocks."

bohemia is pretty sweet. i was there 2 years ago and it was awesome. but if you want park, go to mt marquette, shits sick
