Most important part of a set-up?

What would you say is arguably the most important part of your set-up?

Boots, Bindings, Or skis?

I think its safe to say that its going to be out of boots and skis but im curious, and please argue your point dont just state what you think.

Normally, if someone asked me this, i would say skis instantly as it seems the obvious answer, but i hear alot of people on the forums state that you truely get tons of preformance out of having the right boot and that it is the most important part.

You can't really say what is most important. Skis definitely make you ride good or bad. With shit skis you can't ski that well but with amazing skis you can ski amazing. But boots allow you to ride. You can't ski with bad boots because they would be too uncomfortable and with good boots you could ski for days on end. Bindings save you life so they are important as well. So you can not really determine the most important part of a set-up.

After having some binding trouble recently. I think I am going to have to go with bindings. I feel so much more confident with a nice pair of bindings that aren't going to pre-release or rip out on me the whole time.

It's boots. No question. I mean really, the ski is there, but what drives the ski? The boots. Properly fitting boots are the most important aspect of your setup, bar none.

yes but the boots and ski are conected by bindings, and if your pre releasing everywhere you wont even get to feel the good preformance of those well fitted boots.

After thinking about it i believe .JANGO. was right, you cant choose one. Each piece plays there individual role and is necessary for the other pieces to shine. But this is still highly open to debate.

To all you saying boots, so you would agree that its well justified to spend the extra cash to get fitted etc even if you may grow out of said boots in the following season.

but honestley i agree with boots. if your not perfextley locked in you arent going to be able to utalize the full potential of the rest of your setup.

imo, it goes in order from what touches your body first. boots are the comfort, warm and performance in the equation, a good fitting boot is going to do everything from keep good circulation (warmth) to give good responsiveness and drive of the ski.

from there, a good binding is going to control a ski more properly and give good retention (elastic travel) and be consistent and safe releasing. the ski is the last thing, you can make it down the hill on any set of skis, and some will do it better than others, or work in better conditions, but whats the point if the skis wander or slop around because your boot is too big and dont have control or too uncomfortable and you cant stay out on the slope?

i agree with this and steezdragon has a good point too. with crap bindings you arent as confident if you had good bindings. if your bindings kept prereleasing then how can you progress?

BOOTS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF MY SETUP

i have Full Tilt hotdogger which is fitted for my foot. Best boot ever, light and neat design(not that its important).

i dont think i will get any brand but full tilt, core company for core skiers.

can someone answer this, this isnt a mere question to strike up more argument/ conversation i actually have this delema right now ahaha.

But yea some very good points out there, As of now i really regret getting the cheapest bindings i could find ( look nova 10's ) and the cheapest boot i could find ( but it was my first year skiing )

both for $50, boots = 3 years old ( i think i can justify getting a new pair )

For me its boots. Think of it this way, you can adapt your riding to any pair of skis/bindings if you need to, but you can't just randomly change boots. Thats why when I travel boots always come with me as carry-on, but if an airline lost my skis I could just rent and get by

your in this dilemna now you say? IMO save up and buy the best quality boots you can afford (that fit well,duh). at any rate if you have sick boots you can always rent skis, however if you go out and buy new bajillion dollar ski setup that leaves you having to rent boots.... you can usually get a fairly sweet deal from your local shop pre or post season skis and bindings. and you dont have to go buy expensive bindings ive got some px12 jibs on my ar6s and they are sweet. moral of the story: buy the best boots you can if you have to choose

boots for sure, for example, i was riding my EPs in the park today, took a few min to get use to them but it wasnt hard, but my boots prevented me from skiing some things today due to them puting me in so much pain, skis can be used for anything, boots will make a break you

As has been said, all three are vital. But if I could pick one part of the setup to be amazing and the other 2 could be just OK, I would have to pick boots.

Every piece is key. It's not a question of the most important really. You can have great skis, bindings, boots but shitty goggles and without being able to see when it gets foggy would ruin it all. If you have shitty bindings, the rest is worthless, shitty boots, same thing, the list goes on. Bad gloves and on a cold day you can't ski at all because you need to warm up.

Let's say you have $1,000 to spend on an entire set-up.  I'm using that because it's semi-realistic but also because it makes math easier.  I would spend close to half of that on your boots.  It is by far the most important part of all of your necessary gear.  It's true that you can't go skiing without bindings, or skis, or boots, but (provided everything is working properly and safe) you can have a blast on shitty skis.  You can have a blast with shitty bindings.  But you really can't have a blast with shitty boots.

when i went from my foils to my new kaos, my skiing improved tenfold..in everything. i had so much more control in chunder and wayyy more ski control in park. boots are def the most important.

Boots, let's think about this.

If Dumont were riding his SPK pro's with STH16s mounted on old ass Line 1260's he would still kill it. Now if He were still wearing his SPK pro's but with shitty Marker 11.0 Free bindings mounted on his Dumonts he would STILL kill it, yes he might pre-release and double eject here and there, but it would affect how well he performs. Now if he had hid Dumonts and STH16s but were skiing in shitty rental boots that didn't properly fit him it would/could affect how well he performs because without comfortable feet skiing fucking sucks.

Depends. i have bones problems so boots are more important. But if you have no injuries i'd say skis.

Im kind of excited to get new boots now, i tried on soem SPK kaos's and they fit my feet perfectly, im going to go fit them again before purchasing though.

But yea ive been used to the shittiest, weekend warrior type boots, ive had ever since i sstarted skiing ( 3 years ago ) and they have always been too big, put pressure on my instep, arent comfy, packed out soo much, cut off circulation. Like this is all i ahve ever experienced. Frankly im pumped to have boots that fit and see if the preformance really icnreases

Boots, you could use shitty skis and bindings, but you're still skiing, and in comfort. I could have the best skis and bindings ever, but have horrible boots. I would hate that.
