Park boots vs all mountain (reg) boots

What the difference between these two types of ski boots? Can you use all mountain (reg) ski boots in the park? What makes park boots better. Can you use park boots on all mountain?

One big difference is the stiffness of the tongue..a boot you would use for hucking off cliffs in alaska would be a lot more stiffer then a park boot tongue.

not really sure but i think it really the flex of the boot that makes the difference

Not always. For example, the SPK Kaos and the Shogun have the same flex (100). But the Kaos has a wider last and more park-specific features, like the rubber toepiece. The other thing to look at is the shape of the boot (i.e. stance, which could have a profound impact on your skiing).

Like I have been doing park for a bit now and I have been useing all mountain boots for both. Seems to be okay. But I guess if I get a pair it would help me.

yeh iv got some rossi boots this season they prettyb flexy. and my brother just got the seth morrison full tilts and hes got quite bad shinbang like i was amazed cause iv seen the ads like i dont no if they are as good as what i thought

normally, the park version has a touch softer flex, but not always. normally having a rubber shock absorber under the foot, some extra cush gel in the tongue and calf. little things that take some of the impact out of harder landings

the reason your brother is getting really bad shinbang is cause the seth pro model has a flex 10 tongue witch is reaally stiff he should get a 6 or a 4

The biggest difference between the two is usually the boot board- park/freestyle/freeride boots have a rubber one, all mountain (reg) boots have a rigid one.  Stiffness doesn't really determine it because some park boots (SPK Pro 110 flex) are stiffer than all mountain (reg) boots (Impact 8 100 flex).

Companies make soft park boots and they make stiff ones, and then they make soft all mountain (reg) boots and they make stiff ones- both for different skier types/weights/personal preferences.  The boot board (and other shock absorbing parts of the boot) is what truly makes a boot park or not.

I wouldn't worry about it man, if they are working for you then just rock them. If you are getting shin bang, experiment with how tight you do your buckles up. I had a pair of rossinol sas 110 and for big mountain I have everything locked down! But in the park, and jibbin I left them loose and then just cranked down on the power strap.
