Repercussions of unemployment???

So I dont have a job and I am a full time student. The unemployment rate in my city is upwards of 18-19% which means, I cant find a job anywhere especially with my hours. So, I was thinking of filing for unemployment. What are the repercussions of it? Has anyone had experience with it? Any details?

I did but it was about 40 miles away after I moved, so I have a just reason to have left it. I checked into that.

i think that you can only apply for unemployment if you have been laid off a job. i may be wrong though

In WA that is how it is, and you have to work a certain amount of TOTAL hours before being laid off to qualify. The fuckers at my workplace this summer laid me off and when I applied for unemployment I was like 2 hours away from that mark.

you can only do that if you graduate and can't find a job after like 6 months or something. If your right sign me up though

Its if you have been laid off or have a justified reason to leave the job. Im not asking if I can get it. I know I can. I want to know if it hurts my credit, I know they ask on applications, does it hurt me there? Future real jobs after graduation, do they look down on that?

Just dont disclose that information to future employers! Are you not covered by some privacy Act/ Clause? Go for it man!! Even better if you can double up with a cash job!! like drug dealing!

it will not hurt your credit.  And employers don't look down on it as long as unemployment isn't collected over an extensive period.   I've collected unemployment pay before from having a seasonal job (skiing).  The downfalls are as follows:

1.  The paperwork and getting everything legit and into the system takes WAAAAYYYYYYY too long.  It's so fucking frustrating almost to the point of encouraging you to go get a job so u don't have to deal with it.

2.  obviously the full rate of pay is barely livable, but when you get layed off... you take what you can get.
