What types of wax should I use?

I ride groomers only, its normally very icey, and the average temperature is anyware from 20- 35 degrees. I do alot of rails and my bases are in pretty good condition. I want a good wax that will work best for rails and does not come off super fast. Tell me if it is hot wax or like a quick wax and give me brand names and stuff. Or where i can buy it(websites). Thanks ill give karma for good helpful anwsers.

The company is swix was and is very good. They make both hard and paste wax that you can apply with or without an iron. There are all sorts of tutorials on there website as well. I prefer it over any other brand.

kuu is what i use to wax. I use hot wax depending on the temperture outside. Hot wax deffinately lasts the longests because it gets into the skis grooves. It also fills in shots to the base.

I typicly use a pumpkin scented candle i purchased at ROss dress for less for the hefty price of $1.99, and it works fantastice. screw spendin scrilla on high class ski wax, its all wax..

It depends on how much you want to spend. They are rated from mach 1 to 3. Three is the most expensive but the fastest. I think that the mach 1 is the most durable an stays on the longest. The mach 3 is more for high performance racing and maybe would be good for before a comp or something.

do a hot wax, scrape really well, brush down with a wire brush, then glide wax, buff it out, youll go super fast.

okay, your helping alot. i dont wanna spend more then like 40 and i ride icy groomers or wet groomers. And lots of rails like i said, so what would be the best as far as the Mach's?

There isn't a specific wax to rails or groomers. Different waxes are used for different temperatures.  From what I've heard snowboard waxes are somewhat more durable, this means they would stay on your base longer then regular waxes. If you are looking into swix for purchasing wax there are many choices. If your going for the cheapest way out just get base prep or universal wax. Both these waxes will do the job perfectly fine. If your looking into something more specific to tempatures get the CH series. CH is wax with Hydrocarbon which is a step below fluorocarbo. Fluorocarbo is basically the super expensive stuff that racers use. For you I wouldnt mess around with that shit. Also if you get the CH series stay away from CH 3,4. These are basically pointless they are for snow tempatures to 14ºF to -26ºF (unless you live in a really cold place this is useless). There are a shit load of choices out there so if you have any questions just ask.

Im on evogear right now and they have some One Ball Jay Black Magic Graphite Puck Wax for 6.00$ right now it says for any temperature and it is made of fluoropolymer graphite, idk if this will work good? It is a rub on and or hot wax? let me know what you think about this its like 50 grams of it??

To tell you the truth I'm not familiar with snowboard wax. Basically its a graphite wax which is a good all around wax. It can be either rubbed on or ironed in. Any wax can be rubbed or ironed in for future reference. Rubbing on wax is pretty ineffective from a jibber stand point because it doesn't stay on your skis for long. A 50 gram block will last you about 10-15 hot wax jobs depending on how much wax you use when you iron in wax. If you rub it on i could not tell you. use base prep. keeps your bases from becoming too dry and its the least expensive swix wax.

but seriously, waxing can get so complicated...just throw on some ch4 or something simple, and take one less speedcheck. we can't tell you what wax to use for "groomers".

This is what i've heard, and it may be totally off. Can you use WD 40 for base prep or as a spray on wax or a type of silicone spray. Or is that a bad idea? I've also heard of people using like Pam kitchen spray what do you think of these 2 ideas? Will they work or mess up my skis?

DO NOT use anything but ski wax

and no you dont need to scrap paste wax

just find a big block of cheap wax at a local shop and use that

unless you race you do not need anything crazy or expensive

clean your base with a rag, use an old iron to drip it on and smooth it out, let it cool and scrap it off

i just use the all temp wax. i hot wax and then scrape before i ski in the morning. works for me

swix CH 8 or LF 8 if you wanna drop some money, but for all of my non-race skis i use Toko all temp wax...it works great and is super cheap to buy a ton of it. the differences are minimal enough between toko and lf 7 or 8 when i've used both that i only use expensive waxes for racing

Just buy the cheapest actual ski wax. Then iron on, hot wax, the whole shebang. I wouldn't mess with candle wax or garbage like that.

sounds good, im gonna do just that. Buy the cheapest acttual ski/snowborard wax and just go for it if theres no "good" kind for rails or "groomers" then i dont give a fuck.

REGULAR ALLROUND WAX will do the job...

as a park skier you don't need any fancy race wax; its definately not worth the money and your skis will be equally happy with it...

+wax doesn't make your ski any faster (maybe just 1run) it's the base and the base's condition that makes a ski fast, correct structure, flat base, no ptex hairs, that's what makes a ski fast...

for parkskiers and allround skiers the only use of wax is to protect the base from becoming brittle ...

^^this one or the allround white wax will do the job; i usually mix both the yellow and red.
you can also use just the red one for colder days and the yellow one for hotscraping....

also CH waxes (hydrocarbon) are better for your bases then fluoro carbon...(try to avoid waxes with fluoro, they're usually more expensive, a little bit faster but won't be as good for your base)

Ive been using some Dakine Indy Wax i got for christmas. its only $15 and works EXTREMELY well. its only $15 and does a pretty good job on ice, which all there is in michigan
