When its not small like a roller, or especially off a cliff I like to use a diving motion, lets you spot longer. Just remember to get a good pop!!

Just dooooooo it! It does not hurt if you under-rotate (wich will probably happen the first time) since you land on your back... For me this trick was 100% commitment.
