Why does everybody keep on dying this year? :/
RIP
my helmets done wonders for me, i wish more pros would wear them setting a better example for the younger generation
++++vibes
fuck that sucks
i had a traumatic brain injury in march worst thing ever
luckily i was wearing a helmet
this is in no way meant as disrespect to the victim here but....
studies have shown that you are MORE LIKELY to suffer death while skiing when you are wearing a helmet. ski helmets are only required to withstand impacts up to 27 miles per hour. above that and they do very little. most head trauma deaths in skiing result from crashes between 35-50 MPH, so a helmet will do little to nothing for those people. also, the added weight above your center of gravity exponentially increases your risk of tearing your aorta, which already more than doubles the ammount of deaths in skiing that result from head impacts.
dont get me wrong, i ride with a helmet almost 100% of the time when i ride park, but never on groomers. and this man was not riding park.
mountains making helmets mandotory is one of the most ignort marketing schemes i have ever heard of. i would not be suprised to see 5 times as many lawsuits against resorts now because resorts are now telling people that skiing with a helmet is "safe."
read before you post. i specifically said i ride with a helmet in park. i believe everyone should. but thats not where 99% of the people ski. most deaths at ski areas occur when someone hits a stationary object and their forward momentum continues but their torso stops, causeing their heart to tear itself from its major connections.
resorts making helmets mandatory has nothing to do with park riding. it has to do with families from new jersey and texas that look at things like "what do these mountains say about safety" when they are looking for a vacation resort. "helmets mandatory" says to a mom "Your family will be safe here."
i understand that, but thats now how resorts are marketing the mandatory use of helmets. im not cracking on people for wearing helmets on groomers. it just upsets me that resorts are telling families that it is safe to ski when youre wearing a helmet, even though according to statistics injuries that cause death tend to be made more severe when you add a helmet. you wont die from buttering around and knocking your tails on the back of your head. you will die from slamming a tree at 25+ miles per hour. a helmet wont save you from a torn aorta.
