Solutions for Flat Light?

My friend has a GoPro HD and is in Alta at the moment, and says that the GoPro HD doesn't work very well under flat lighting conditions. Is this true? And if so, is there any way to fix it via a change of settings, etc.?

I have found that it works well in flat light. there are some mtn bike videos on youtube and vimeo that show the performance in flat light
