New photography camera

With what i have saved and the flow i got for christmas i have about 650 to spend on a new still photography camera.

I have been looking at the Canon Rebel Xsi more than any other thing but am still open for suggestions and if it is worth the extra time saving my money i am willing to enlarge my budget if necassary.

i have done a little photography here and there for a while but not with anything other than a point and shoot. so this will be my first slr.

I am planning to do ALOT of action sports, skiing, skating, bmx, downhill biking,

But also alot of scenery seeing as i live in utah possibly one of the most beautiful places on this planet.

Any help will be greatly appriciated. k+

i say go for whatever camera you can get for the money for now and when you get more into it and get more lenses and after a couple years and you work up a collection of lenses then upgrade your camera.

And theres not a camera specifically good for sports or scenery its all based on the lense you use and your style so dont base buying a camera on if its good for sports or scenery.

All in all canon xsi is a good start

just some self promotion but you should check out my FS thread I have a Nikon D1H package with 2 lenses and a flash for $500.  i used it as a sort of starting DSLR and it was great for me.

the xsi is a great starter, but if you can throw in another hundo or so the rebel t1i with the 18-55 kit lens is looking really banger. a few more megapixels, video capabilities, and better ISO performance.

you can go nikon and get the D5000 or D3000. if i were u id save up some more money and get the D300s or D90.


dont forget you can buy used. there is a camera body (D2H) that has amazing skin tones and 8fps. looks PRO and is only 500 bucks used.

couldn't have said it better.

and yeah if you can scrounge up another 150-200 just find yourself a used 40d and get a cheap lens like a ef 28-105 4-5.6 usm. or get the same lens and find a 30d that combo you could probably score for 700ish. perfect action sports camera. 40d though is one of the best action sports camera for the money at this point, great iso capabilities, 6.5fps, 10mp, 3in screen, sealed and gasketed against weather. buy used equipment in good shape as a beginner it gives you a head start.

rebels are phenominal starter cams for everyday use but for on the mountain or skating, biking, climbing anything were you are active and shooting you want something more like a 30d or 40d, shoots faster and is more suited to taking abuse.
