Boycott the xgames highair

Im not trying to start a fight here, but it seems blatantly obvious that the new xgames event is tailored to fit dumonts new oakley suit. It's not even a test of trick skill, it's how fast you can charge a pipe wall and how far you can fly without killing yourself. Who cares how high someone goes in a pipe? It matters in a pipe comp, but someone going even 50 feet out isn't even progressing out sport, it's just launching your body and seeing if you can land with your legs still. I personaly will turn off the xgames during this entire event, and while you can argue it's good there is more exposure, is it the exposure our sport needs? It's not like if people see skiers charging out of a pipe just to go high they are going to jump for joy, I mean basically the first hit of EVER pipe run. I think it would be farrrrr more worth while to hold a railjam, Tom Wallisch (who most kids here would claim auto win, like dumont auto win on pipe air) would have SOOOOO much competition from any number of freestyle guys, and it would force each skier to do crazy shit on 1-3 rails. Far more technical, interesting, and chance for prgression other than a "Let's see you high you can go" spectator event. The xgames is going downhill for sure, thank god for dew tour.

dude the Xgames is targeted at people who dont understand the sport. they arent going to distinguish between a technical trick or something more basic. case and point dumont winning the xgames with a double front when someone else was tossing a double cork or something.

the general public would rather see some dude launching 40 feet out over someone going 10 but doing an unnatural 10.

its all about ratings to them.

That is a very good point, and at risk of attacking dumont (Im not trying to do, I give him mad respect for all he has done for skiing, whish is A LOT). But I sort of feel they are making this event to keep him in the spotlight as well. I think they should just let skill speak for itself, oneday Simon just has to accept that he is getting older and won't be able to keep up with newer gens of skiers. For example dumont can't throw dubcorks on the reg, he clearly doesn't, and within the next year thats going to be a textbook trick. I find the fact that the pic they chose is of dumont very very suspect as well, *it's not like they're forshadowing or anything* *means sacrasm

the tv coverage. last year they were good about it. had it live. this year all the skiing (so far) has been shoved to prerecorded late night time on usa. xgames has had the skiing live for the past few years (maybe not this year like dew?). what timmi$ said goes for both. dew tour just took it to a higher level giving snowboard events live coverage on a major network (nbc). at least xgames/espn cares (cared?) enough to show it live. neither really care about the progression i guess. x just seems to not care less

i see what your saying. . . however, its not tailored towards dumont. . . he won big air through a popular vote which isnt surprising. the trick truley didnt mean shit. the only way people would have heard of hunder at big air was if they read freeskier mag or was on ns. but since dumont was and is a huge name in the industry thats why he won. xgames isnt conforming to dumont, just more people know dumont

who fucking cares man. its more airtime for skiing and it will be entertaining. its not going to ruin the sport and a bunch of other sports have gone through more retarded shit. it sucks that kids these days dont realize how sick it is to finally have skiing popular enough for xgames to put in the effort to include sideshow events like this for it.

Actually xgames is tailor fit for gaper viewing pleasure, that's the route they headed towards for the last few year, and they made it pretty clear last year with text to vote.

X games is pretty lame these days, not nearly as legit as the olf days. I'll still watch it if I'm home though

Until you've skied in a superpipe you have no clue how gnarly this event will be. Besides, there are events that are more unsafe. I can't think of many features that were higher risk than that ridiculous crossover canyon last year.

The reason X-Games has events like high air is to get the attention of non skiers. People who don't know who Simon Dumont, Tanner Hall, Tom Wallish, Jossi Wells, ect. are.

You should know stuff before you talk. Alli sports/Dew Tour cares a lot more about skiing than XGames/ESPN do. If you would of watched the Dew Tour this summer you would know that they alternate the sports that get prime time coverage. They did it last year at the winter dew tour too. So this stop snowboarding got the limelight and maybe next stop skiing will or it might even be the last stop. Either way skiing is getting more coverage to a large audience. I mean you never see Xgames having open prelims or hosting an nationwide amatuer comp to give younger riders a chance at competing in the big leagues.

Who cares its a side event like moto step up in summer X. It's mostly a fun comp for the athletes and some bragging rights.

And for the people that think its all just for the gomers; who do you think keeps our sport alive? A 150,000 newschoolers? Or several million weekend worriors buying skis and appearal because it looks cool, or that's what the guy that went massive out of the pipe was wearing? Hate on them as you may, but they keep sports alive and they're one of the reasons Action Sports can have pro atheletes that make enough money to make a living doing what they love.

everybody is claiming they made the event for dumont blablabla
at the wsi they've been doing this event for years and no one ever complained about it!!!
i'm pretty sure everybody remember crighton alley-oop flat five like 6 or 7 meters high over the copping it was at the one hit comp in whistler and everbody was stoked about it!

for this year i'm pretty sure it's going to be crazy with all the new dubs like rolland and wise with the dub 12 peter with alley-oop dub flat so before telling that the xgames made this event for dumont check out all the others with the big tricks and you'll see they've maybe done this new one to get the biggest tricks that is harder to get in a run and for the crowd

Is the winner the skier with most air, or biggest trick?

Anyways, a rail jam with like 5-6 different rails in a line would be super cool, and would also be a more even comp than the pipe jam. But then again, I will watch it, because i'm just grateful there is skiing on TV.
