Memory card?

what type of memory card should I get for my gopro hd. I heard that some dont work as well as others, and I really have no knowledge about memory cards.

I would say just get a big one, 1080p video takes up a whole lot of space !

I just got a GoPro HD, and it came with a 4GB SD card.
I tested it today for like 4 hours, I tried every possible resolution possible. The quality in all of them is awesome, even though it was crappy weather and flat light.
I realised that I might have a problem with the card though. All the footage I got today seems to be skipping/lagging, especially the 1080p and 720p/60fps.
I don't know if any of you have had that problem? If so what did you do to make the footage smooth?
I looked on the gopro website and it says that for 1080p & 720p/60fps it records around 15mb/s. Could it be that the SD card doesn't record fast enough? Or is it just my computer that sucks and can't process the footage?

Anyways if you have any ideas/tips please share!

you need a class 4memory card or higher !
i believe GoPro adviced kingston memory cards, but i'm using a class 4 sandisk and it works just fine...

I think a 16gig card will be largely sufficient for all your footage (considering you have only 1 battery and will be plugging it into your laptop whenever the bat. is empty....)

Yeah nevermind my post... my computer just sucks... tried it on another computer and the footage just flows!
I got about 40min. of footage with my 4GB card so a 16GB would be well enough.

Ok this might sound really stupid but I have been trying to set this up all morning and haven't got it to work. Please don't hate...

I got the HD helmet hero gopro model and it seems that it hasn't come with a memory card?
1) Do you have to buy the memory card separately?
2) Can you save videos, pictures, etc. to the gopro without a memory card?
3) Will I not be able to record until I get a memory card (Kind of goes with question 2)

I would really appreciate the help for i am technologically retarded. Thanks NS.

1) yes you need to buy the card separately. get a Kingston Class 4 SD card. i have the 16 gb and it works fine.
2) the GoPro HD does not have an internal memory.
3) you can't record until you have an sd card in the gopro

I'm using the SanDisk SDHC Video HD 16GB Class 6, no problems at all. You can grab one of these for around 40 bucks if you look around.

you can buy class 6 32 gb sd cards (they blue with like rainbow shit on the printed part)

on ebay for like 20-30 bucks

i might be wrong on some points but:
the original GoPro (non HD) was designed for 2gig cards max.
the firmware update basically installs a program that will allow your GoPro to accept larger cards up to 4gig.

other small things that the firmware updates; you can film upside down and still produce normal footage instead of upside down footage
i also believe they adjusted some smaller stuff such as metering, whitebalance, exposure settings etc...
basically finetuning the cam...


For the GoPro HD we're still waiting for the first firmware update; important stuff this update might solve; the memory card problem, the on-off problem, maybe even more finetuning of the whitebalance, exposure metering, but also allowing to record while plugged into your laptop or usb adaptor (interesting for shooting long timelapses...)
allowing for upside down filming,
etc....
