Funny thought on Skiing and Snowboarding

Has anyone else noticed how skiing has never personaly attacked snowboarding(except when it was FIRST starting/ before the freeskiing movement), however since snowboarding started they have always had a negative attitude for skiers (and I am not saying snowborders are all sterotypical shred head assholes) and something on that topic is released every year. For example the stickers that say "Skiing if for little fat kids," Danny Kass Badmouthing Park/Pipe Skiing saying snowborders founded it and should have exclusivity to it (basically calling out skiiers for progressing out sport/ when he has TANNER HALL on his glove team), to High Cascade making fun of skiiers/ excluding them from there camp facilities for that reason, and finishing up with with my favorite Burton shirt of a skier being sniped. I just seems to me snowboarders are sooooooo concerned staying the super cool underground snow sport, when in reality they would NEVER exist without skiing/ and they just want to push an "uncool" feeling on us to appeal to people honestly no older than children. I just find it funny how hard snowboarders try to stab at skiiers, and love how all we do is let our skiing talk for itself. *High five* Newschoolers and Merry Xmas!

I think i am going to get one of these shirts that hate on skiing.  I hate to suport burton in any way but i think im gonna get one.  Whenever someone is like " yeah man boarding rules" I will give them the bird and tell them to F#$^ off.  Whenever someone asks me " hey arent you a skier?"  I will simply respond "yep".  I dont know, i guss i just like to mess with people.

its usually pre-pubescent 13 year old boys that ride burtons and wear volcom coats and shit that hate on skiing when 3 years down the road, they will eventually get bored of snowboarding and just quit doing it.

I ski and snowboard, been skiing since i was like 4..Stopped for like 8 years to snowboard..last year i picked up my girlfriends pair of skis and just skied. that being said I just started freeskiing this season.
So this is from my personal experience from the two sports.
Skiing is absolutely 150% harder to learn park then snowboarding. Skiing also just so much more flow.

On the topic of Danny Kass, I come from his home mountain and have ridden with him twice. I used to idolize him, but in reality he is kind of a douchebag and i think he pretty much sums up the stereotypical snowboarder, thinking there bad ass and so much better then skiers when really they are usually a bunch of stoners who just do the same 3 tricks over thinking they are the shit and talk alot of smack.

snowboarding is a trend with middle school kids who are trying to be EXTREME
so to maximise their hardcoreness they make fun of skiers

guys like danny kass doing that is pathetic, but since a few pros do it, everybody wants to hop on the bandwagon

i think most snowboarders do it to be cool talking with their snowboard friends, but whenever i meet a snowboarder or talk to one i get mostly respect

kids just like to talk shit with their friends, the real good ones are chill
if someone is actually a snowboarder and rides a lot, they dont pull that shit and realize its all the same just out there having fun

Not to hate on snowboarders, but the fact is skiers go bigger in the pipe and faster, and there's more tricks possible on skis (grabs mainly).  The flat out science of what's possible on skis kicks snowboardings ass.

just yesterday my budy hit one rail, was right inline headed for the next and the boarder cut him off then didn't even hit the rail, but jumped off the takeoff to the side.  I was pissed and it didn't even happen to me.

its all marketing bs. i ride with 99% snowboarders, and they are all chill dudes. i enjoy watching them ride, they enjoy watching skiers, and we both get a different perspective on things since we have 2 different styles

its just that there is no reason for this thread, there is never hate at least where i ski everyone is real friendly and having a good time.  only gaper boarders and skiiers start shit, dont say it is just boarders there are plenty of dumb skiiers doing it too.

one time i was on the lift and some random guy who had like 5 years on me ( i was probably 14) he was saying that snowboarding is way cooler and i shouldnt ski and all that. i was being my usual smartass self.

he then reached over and slapped me in the face.

i think ski/snowboard hate died by 03.

usually the kids who hate on skiers are the ones who are just buying that corporate burton bullshit. they generally cant ride worth shit.

Re the point you quoted, I think I see where he's coming from.  People have been skiing longer than people have been snowboarding.  If there hadn't already been ski lifts and an established ski industry, would snow boarding exist today?  Who knows.  Definitely would have been tougher to get mainstreamers to go out and hike up into the back country just so they could try snowboarding.  Could you imagine how hard it would be to sell your parents on that one?  Hey mom and dad, I'm going to climb up that peak and slide down it standing up on this elongated cafeteria tray. 

Then again surfing has been around at least as early as the 1700's.

i think that some of the snowboarders might be like that because some skiers are like that too. not newschool skiers, im talking about the old guys who have been skiing forever. i snowboard too, and one day for no apparent reason some older man comes up to me, without ever speaking to me in my life, and explains to me how i have ruined skiing for him. ive seen other cases of this too, and im sure this isnt the main reason that this happens, but im just throwing it out there because i never really realized that skiers did that to snowboarders as well.

I was riding on the chair with this snowboarder the other day and we were talking about this exact same thing, He had a really good statement, "It doesn't matter if your riding two planks or one, were all out here having fun on the mountain."

i agree in a way cus i know some snowboarders who talk shit and how a lot of the snowboard industy talks some stuff on skiing here and there but one of my very good friends is a great boarder and he thinks skiing is just as tight. I think riding with a mix of both not only shows me everyone loves snow sports and wants to have fun, but also my riding gets more technical and innovated by boarders because i get a different pov from seeing boarders ride and take my riding into new things.

sorry but this is being ignorant. . . i am 100% skier but in reality, skiing would not have gotten to where it is today without snowboarding. the reason your skis have that parabolic shape (yeah the shape that lets you turn effortlessly) is because snowboarding came out. without snowboarding there may not even be shaped skis. with that said without snowboarding there may not even be twin tips.

First off, that vid was great, the skier kicked the shit out of the snowboarder and was way chill the whole time then the snowboarder who was much bigger and 50x more hotheaded.

On this whole skier/ boarder shit, there have been soooo many threads on this but i guess ill just give my 2 cents.

In my opinion snowboarding is sooo played now( compared to freestyle skiing) they want to have there whole image of being under ground and against society and stuff when in reality the majority of kids out there are little 13 year olds who just hit puberty who want to act as extreme as they can so they pick up on any mainstream "extreme" sport they can do. Then theres the other bunch who just do it because they think skiing is lame when infact we go faster, bigger, and have so many more tricks available to us. If you ask me freesyle skiing is way more "underground" than snowboarding ( mainly freestyle snowboarding)

in the end, were just out there to have fun so people should stop being faggots.

But skiing still came first, and without skiing first snowboarding would not be where it is today. FACT. Im not saying we dont owe them anything for twintips...which have only been around for what not even a decade? Skiing dates back several decades, snowboarding about 20 or so years. Im saying Skiing in general not twin tips only.

yea, but it's the same argument that skiers wouldn't of started park skiing without snowboarding. Come on people, we would have figured it out eventually.

the whole thing is silly, irrelevant, and as far as I'm concerned, the creator of this thread is just stirring the shit pot some more.

Skiing and snowboarding is extremely image driven. Snowboarding's image has always been "punk", rebellious, against the "man", etc... skiing is the man, skiing is the establishment, skiing is the parent... so yea, snowboarders are going to market an anti-skier image. It's marketing, it's just as stupid and full of shit as marketing in any industry.

to be honest, i like to ski with boarders. well actually, i know zero freestyle skiers at my college, and tons of boarders. a ride to the mountain is a ride to the mountain right?
i ended up skiing with them and finding out that they were decent riders, knew where to go in the woods, and are always fun to talk to.
sure, they throw me under the bus once in a while for being a skier, but they are actually really stoked on my style and attitude on the mountain. im only a few days in, and i have really stepped tricks up and my landings are cleaner, mostly to try to show them whats up in the ski world. they have never really had a skier in the group and dont know all the trick names and whats more difficult to land and such. im there to help them and get them to see whats up. they are all for learning more about the sport, and one wants to try my old skis out for a day or two because he mostly boards because of knee issues.

were out there to do the same thing, have fun on the mountain.

People need to focus more on individuals and less on groups of people.
Just like its racist to dislike a particular race it is equally racist to like a particular race. If you, for example, claim to like blacks, mexicans, hispanics, chinese, etc, that is racism. You are making assumptions about many similar looking individuals after only observing the actions of a few. All these groups are made of individuals with their own personality, aspirations, character, and so on. Sure, certain groups have more 'bad' individuals than others, but those people are completely independent of the 'good' people of the same group. Just because youve witnessed a terrorist attack by a few middle-eastern individuals does not mean that the population is made up of terrorists, despite the fact that they are in the same racial 'group'. Just like george says in the curb your enthusiasm seinfield reunion: "A few bad strangers have ruined it for the rest of us".
