im too young and naive to know much about it, all i know is when i hear people disagreeing with it, they provide reason for this and why it will fail, and when i hear peopling mocking those who disagree they just call them ignorant and dont give any reason why it is beneficial and necessary
Are we really going to start another debate thread right now?? there was one yesterday. And to all you dumbass republican fucks they took out a public option so fuck all of you. That was the best part of the bill.
i know it's not the topic, but it's come up a lot on weighing the pros and cons of the matter, and here's some educated defense on why socialized medicine isn't bad, and what canadians really think.
I was right with you guys and didnt really care much about it until I moved into my own house sophmore year of college and realized two of my roomates couldnt afford healthcare. When one got pancreatitus (sp?) they couldnt go to the hospital and it was real bad.
In Finland, for 30 euros a year, you can go to the doctor as many times as you wish.
Queuing for surgery depends on the seriousness of an injury or surgical need (Need heart bypass - shit gets done on the dot and you live. Got shot? Stabbed? Scalpel! You live) and you don't pay for surgery costs, only for the days spent in a hospital in recovery (approximately 3-5 euros/day depending on the area). If you have an ailment that does not need critical surgery at the moment, you are put in a queue and you get like -90% off all medication for pain etc.
Comparing to the private clinics at least in Helsinki, just a 20 minute session with a doctor who is probably no more qualified than the public sector ones here (usually they work both sectors) with the same amount of time going for reserving an appointment etc: it will cost you 20-60e. For 20 minutes. Even drawing blood at a private clinic costs like 20e/a pop!
No matter the health insurance, I sure as hell could not afford any major operation if it were not for public healthcare. Pussy euros...Ben, you're a fucking idiot.
Because you all die waiting for doctors! clearly the US has it right, every other civilized nation that has some form of socialized medicine is just too ignorant to realize it sucks.
you know, there's probably a witty proverb somewhere that basically says : "if everyone thinks you're an idiot, chances are, you're the only one too stupid to realize that you're an idiot"
now, not all americans are stupid, but there's enough of you.
I'm gonna withdraw that 'fucking idiot' notion, but no, everyone is not dying. Like I said, more people would be dying if there was no public healtcare sector because they would not afford to pay for major surgeries! Even if they would live through a crazy ordeal, they would probably have an astronomical bill to pay for years. Does it really sound good to you?
It's working pretty damn fine over here. A brain aneyrusm (sp?) or a blood clot in the brains is the Finnish national disease and thousands of people suffer from it every year. If it were not for our healtcare system, which has led to huge developments of free, quick recovery from said ailment, a lot of people would be gone. If an ambulance ride would cost a lot of money, many people would take some time to think about it before calling in: especially with the brain clot, every passing second may be fatal.
But yeah, opinions are opinions etc. Have a nice Christmas anyway!
Side note: Santa is coming tonight and who doesn't love a creepy old man breaking into your house and eating cookies and tracking soot everywhere! I hope I get Red Ryder before Obama takes it from me!
Well at least they adde3d the private option so I can now pay more to get somewhat decent health care that I already pay too much for. Best part is tho, now I can also pay for health care for all the jobless skells in this country taking handouts left and right! Direct pay and through my taxes... what variety!
At least the republicans can say that they had a meaningful and thoughtful debate with the Democrats after they dropped the public option to try to get a bill through instead of voting along public lines in an attempt to derail the whole process.
Oh wait.
This bill isn't coming into effect yet by the way, they have to combine the senate bill with the house bill, which will require more negotiating but will eventually be done and on Obama's desk.
yeah i really hate my canadian healthcare. the ability to walk (or crawl/hobble, etc.)into a hospital with no money in my pockets and walk out a while later with proper treatment is fucking terrible. it's really gonna suck for you americans, trust me.
I'm not talking about honest hard working people who get laid off and have to accept unemployment until they find a new job. I'm talking about every dipshit I've met who brags about how they've been on unemployment/wlfare/dissability for forever and don't need it, they're just taking advantage of the rest of us. I see these guys all the time where I work and it pisses me the fuck off. They'll come in on a fucking tuesday, drunk at like 11 oclock to buy a "big fuckin flatscreen dude" the sale will porogress and we'll get to talking. (/10 after asking them what they do they say, some shit about how they've been fucking over the state for the last ten years cause they hurt their back or some shit. I just wanna hit em.
Umm...... I love you K-rob, you know that, but did you happen to read ANYTHING on the health care that passed here? Theres no coverage for people who cant afford healthcare
basically the bill just regulates the insurance industry even more = higher costs for everyone
i hate crackheads too and would love to spit at a squeegee just as much as the next fuck. but really you're stressed about probably a ridiculously small percentage of the population. and complaining just makes you sound petty and souless.
not soulless, just un-compassionate to those undeserving and self reliant., I'm not saying the idea behind this is good. I just know exactly how it's going to be taken advantage of just like all the other "welfare state" programs that we have currently.
Why don't you live out in the woods with moose then?
In the age of globalization, once we privatize something it automatically becomes connected with the government. We have so many international corporations that control the things we come in contact with everyday, you don't think congressman and senators aren't taking a piece of that pie? If the government controls certain things, at least we have a say and they won't do it just for profit. We can vote them in and out of office and have ourselves heard.
You think if Nike could make shoes in Idaho by paying workers a 1.50 an hour, they would hesitate? Hell no, whatever brings in the best profit next quarter is what wins. The only thing that stops companies from abusing workers and consumers are government regulations, they don't give a fuck about us. At least by putting more control in the governments hands in terms of our healthcare, insurance companies won't be able to completely abuse us the way they are doing now. We as a voting people have a say in what goes on and gets done in government, not some massive conglomerate.
