Compostie Decking?

Someone mentioned this in another thread and I'm pretty interested.  Please post how it works out.  I would think as a sliding surface it would be great.  It's tough to say how fast it would be, but probably comparable to PVC.  You may not even need to add a metal coping.  IMO the best way to go would be to build a simple box with composite decking as the surface and no coping.  Get a bunch of people to session it who can Switch Up and see how the edges hold up.  If they get beat up, you just have to come up with a way to recess a metal edge onto it.  The way this works for decking is that you give the guys at Home Depot or Lowes the dimensions of your deck surface.  They feed it into a cad program and the you receive the various lengths of the composite decking and a map of how they all fit together.  As I understood it, this shit is really tough to cut and you will fuck up a normal saw it you try to cut threw it.  That's why it comes pre cut.  I'm sure there is way to make it work though and if it is that durable it could be ideal for boxes and rails.

not so sure about that. it depends on what kind of decking your talking about. I know for a fact that eon is cuttable with a saw. im pretty sure trex is too.

one thing though, since the boards are made of plastic, when cutting them you may not get a clean cut. the heat from the friction of the saw blade will cause the plastic to melt. the way you can avoid this is to have a buddy take a garden hose and spray a fine mist of water on the blade as you are cutting.

i definitely want to try putting composite decking on a box. its just so expensive

actually it works pretty damn good when you sand it down and wax it. i have some pictures of my rail made with it on my profile. i have hit it for about a week now with my friends and its holding up really well.
