yup, just got my $8,000 from the government for the first time home buyers credit. want to take a guess how much i actually received? would you say more or less?

Yeah I really wish there was a better way of keeping politicians accountable. Each senator just gets stupid little pet project that are added on to important bill. For instance the senator from Nebraska holding out to get the nation to pay his states share of the health bill he may look like a hero so his state but hes screwing the rest of America over to do so.

However I think if you just leave it to the big companies to be honest and do the right thing your making a big mistake.

like i said in my post. dont expect me to defend Bush. maybe you missed that. but you will also notice upon a careful reading of "jenifa"'s post, that she in NO WAY elaborated on her hatred of bush. she just thought he was "the worst thing ever to happen to the US" (close enough)


some people have good reasons to hate bush. i dont hate him, but believe me i am far from a fervent  bush supporter...

what are cap gains taxes going back up to? what are the "rich" peoples taxes going back up to? ide get my money out of this country too, if i had a sizable ammount. i agree that its a bad thing for this country, but lets face it, at the end of the day its their money. not mine, and not yours. it sure as hell is not the communities money either.

i know a great deal about the income inequality gap, believe me my soci professor made damn sure we knew the rich were to blame, and that something needed to be done.

let me make it clear, that someone who expects something for nothing, whether that be a bum in the gutter, or a bum in an 8k sqft house. they both are the greediest, most selfish people around. although at that point, you have to ask, did the rich bums parents earn the money? if yes, they can do what they want with it. but there really is not much difference between someone who collects an inheritance, or the bum in the gutter in terms of mindset. they both claim right to someone elses work.

your line about responsibly investing 5b dollars scares me. shall we just confiscate all amounts of money over 5b? redistribute it not based on merit but based on need?

actually, i am one of the demographics that this is going right after, Ive been planing on buying a few houses in Detroit as an investment for some time now, say i spend 10 grand on 10 homes, i now own 10 homes, the city cant get much worse so hopefully in the future the property values rise making my investment a good one, and if it doesn't i lose 10 grand, yes its a lot but not the end of the world.  These houses aren't doing anything productive sitting there if i purchase them now taxes are being payed on them and the land, then say i rent them that is putting money back into the economy, say i spend a few grand fixing them up that  means im employing people in the area, and giving money to local construction firms/business , Ive been looking into doing this for a few months now this incentive is what will allow a lot of people to make these investments.  Also Ive been paying taxes into the system for so many years now, about time the government does something for me...that's how i look at it, once you maybe at least go to school and further on in life when your parents start to cut you off, or you have to pay back student loans

I believe the gov gave you an education and probably a pretty good one if your becoming a real estate investor now. The roads you use and park in your city all came from somewhere right?

Its called a first time home buyers incentive for a reason you pompous ass not a real estate investors incentive. Your no better than the big banks. You are having the gov help pay for your RISKY investment about 80% of it from what you say from what you said. The OP isnt intending on making a profit you are.

I've been paying my taxes since 16 and have had a job since I was 14. Moved out of my parents house after I graduated high school. My rent is free because Im an RA and what I dont have covered by scholarships I have student loans for which will still be under 10 grand even if I stayed 4 years. Im on track to graduate 2 trimesters early saving my ass a bunch of money. I job pays more than enough to support myself and buy what ever little frivolous things I want and still put money in the bank.

I'm guessing ethics wasnt your best subject in business school. So it still stands you are a piece of shit scum bag and I hope you lose all of your money someday so that you can experience getting stepped on by the people like you who take advantage of the system.

Oh and I'm not denying that I haven't had huge advantages in my life theres nothing I can do about the way I was born but Im certainly not taking advantage of anyone.

bottomline, minus any intentional jenifa trolling on my part, is i dont want universal health care... mainly because its one more thing were giving the government to take care of.

case in point, i ordered something, usps priority, should have taken 3, maybe 4 days to get here, it took 2 weeks because usps is shitty. ups would have been on time, but a little more expensive.

Obama has done better than Bush. And what drives me crazy is the fact that whatever Obama does wrong people go crazy abaout but if Bush had done it it would have been fine. And now, like benrle, I wait for the hate...

And exactly what HAS Obama done that is better? Take the debt that the USA had from Bush and amplified it by like over a trillion dollars? Win the Nobel Peace Prize and then send more troops to Afghanistan? Pass a "healthcare" bill that is in actuality nothing more than a tax bill because those who don't make enough to pay the tax will then get thrown in jail and then STILL not get healthcare? Get real, and realize Obama is as big a fuck up as Democrats like to make Bush out to be, it is just that because you are ALSO Democrat you think he is God's gift to the Earth. Wait, yer a Democrat, you probably don't believe in ANY form of a God.

-They may be relocating the prisoners from Guantamamo, but the inhumane mistreatment of prisoners that occurred there (i.e. waterboarding) that violated the Geneva Conventions will not continue.

-Recovery.gov is the definition of "accountable." There are no fake counties. They have a map (which I am looking at right now) that lets you look at an aerial view of the United States, showing thousands of little dots. Each one represents a destination of government funds. Zooming in and clicking on the dot can tell you the number of recipients of funds, the total number of jobs created or saved by that specific appropriation of funds, the dollar amount, the recipient, etc. Calling recovery.gov unaccountable is misguided. Recovery.gov literally sets the standard for government accountability.

Do I agree with it? No. But I don't agree with every decision thats ever come from our government either. However they still do more good then harm.


Charmander is just as likely to leave the country as all the hippies who said they would when Bush was elected round 2.

I could only handle skimming this thread... but do you guys realized that Obama understands economics and specifically that of the Unite Sates better than ANY member of newschoolers EVER will, at least in the near future I guess? Even if you are an econ major, Obama could teach those classes off the top of his head.

I agree with the guy who wanted a politics forum, every time I go to non ski gabber I can't help but look at this stuff.

nope the government didn’t give me an education actually bud, the almost 200 thousand dollars ive spend so far has (pre scholarships, i only own around 50, and grad school if i get in to my first choice will cost me 150 more for 2 years  the job i have now would pay 90 percent of it so id only owe about 15)...the government didnt do that for me thats me busting my ass in school for the majority of the time... so no, the government didnt give me much of anything, yes there are subsidies from the govt but the majority of my schools funding is from private endowments,  yes my parents have helped me out a ton, and ill be eternally grateful for that, cosigning loans, giving me a place to live if i need it between schools, and so on but my last semester in school i was taking 19 credits and working 2 jobs dude so chill out a little so get your shit straight first

Yes the roads and parks come from the taxes, and ive been paying for almost the last 10 years.  YES i am better than the banks i am not luring people in with subprime rates with the knowledge that the homeowner will not be able to pay them when the low rates dissolve and my rates go through the roof...on the contrary im essentially a philanthropist (by no means am I saying I am just using it as a comparison), im putting money in to poverty stricken communities.  Im rebuilding home that otherwise would be run by slum lords and drug dealers ( chill out im not talking about bud i know everyone including myself on this site burns), im buying homes from real estate agents making money for them, im renting out homes pumping money back in to the economy im paying property taxes, school taxes, and so on, im purchasing good from local store to fix the houses im looking into once again pumping money in to the local economy...

and yes ive been on the fence about doing this, but if the government will give me 8 grand to do it, it makes my decision that much easier.

im not an obama supporter, i dont even agree with this policy, but heck if its on the table and i can better my life along with helping out a strugling city (im sure thats more than what youre doing to help) then what am i doing wrong?

So K-12 were at private schools. And by the way you dont get to graduate early by not taking more credits I've been at around 20 since I started so yeah I know its tough so good for you.

You still are like banks your using money from the government to use on things it was intended for.
It was made for people to be able to live in the home not to rent it and profit from. So what you want is to have tax payers help you for investment purposes so that you can make money.

after reading through my thread, and ignoring all the healthcare bullshit arguments. ive come to the conclusion that most kids that argued that i shouldnt of taken the tax credit dont really know anything about taxes.

Here is a question for NS:

if you bitched about myself taking the tax credit do you bitch at your parents for having you? or do you bitch about not making enough money? Do you bitch if your grandparents live with you? do you bitch about going to college? guess what! you get a tax credit for all of those! OMG, im the bad person for taking a tax credit, when your parents probably take more tax credits per year than i do.

has anybody ever heard of the Earned Income Tax Credit before? most people arguing that i "stole money from them" dont really even pay taxes anyways. go learn the tax system.

Obama could teach my courses off the top of his head? That statement just goes to show that you have never taken any course in Economics above entry level. If you had you would know that Macro Economics isnt a yes or no science. It's a social science which includes debate and there is no easy answers that someone can teach off the top of their head. I've listened to what my senior profs (who have studied these kinds of things for decades) have told me on both sides of the argument and have come to my own conclusion about this "stimulus package".

Spending in a recession may or may not have positive effects in the SHORT RUN. However, in the LONG RUN all this debt and inflation (printing money) only slows economic growth for future generations. The problem I have with politics in general is the population never thinks in the long run, they get scared. Politicians sell you on 'fix it now' answers they don't have because thats their job... and the general stupid public buys it up.

would you rather that money go to myself, which will spend it on my house (probably to get a new landscaping) or have it spent on the War?

people keep saying its "our money" or "my money" that you are giving me, like I dont know this? But in all reality your not paying hardly any taxes to the government anyways. how about i just thank Bill Gates or Warren buffett instead becasue thats who is paying the most into the system anyways.

I made almost 25 grand last year. do you know how much of that i paid in taxes? (FICA taxes only BTW)

$1,661 hardly anything.

Now, I get that we still pay alittle into they system but would you rather have Obama use the tax money to try to stimulate the economy or spend it on the war, or world poverty, or aids in africa? how about we fix our own country first.

this was not all meant for you BTW, just stating my opinion on the matter.

well you bought a house, thats one less home without a buyer driving down all of our real estate values. If your neighbors house can't sell, you could easily lose more than  8k in equity on your own property. Just putting that out there

i just dont agree with the policy of giving people money for buying certain things. Like this and cash for clunkers. I think that it would serve the economy and the country alot better if you were to cut taxes and let the people spend it on what they want instead of the gov. dictating what you should buy by giving incentives to people. Also just because you dont pay alot of taxes doesnt mean that everyone that isnt insanely rich pay low taxes, just ask my parents who combined to make about 100000 and they pay pretty high taxes

100,000 do you understand thats 40 grand more than the average american family and your bitching about taxes. Forget about the fact much of the world lives on 100 dollars or less a month and whole family lives in a room probably smaller than yours. Dont bitch about taxes till you actually pay them

this may be a long shot, but how much taxe will you pay long term or have paid on this house? if you consider that a factor, then you're just getting your own money back, so maybe everyone should just be quiet. that's like my gst cheques, every 4 months i get like 65-100$ for the gov. and it's not other taxe payers money, it's mine, that i've technically paid every time i spend money and pay taxes.

that is true and just let everyone keep more of their money will support small companies too, but big comapnies also create job. I can personally speak for oil companies. About 80% of the people I know that are graduating college this year or next will work for oil companies. If more people start shopping at walmart because they have money walmart will expand and they will need workers in the USA to work at stores, distribution centers, etc.

Walmart burdens the government more and cost us more in tax dollars due to the fact the pay wages the fall below the poverty line. They have also proven time and again that they take advantage of their workers by changing time card and other shady tactics such as tax incentive to move into a town then when they stop they move to the next town over.
Also you realize that walmart is the largest company in the world how in the world do they make sooo much money if they are making things in America and sell them so cheap. They dont they take advantage of 3rd world nations and pay the worker pennies on the dollar.
In fact why are we giving money to the largest company in the world whos 4 largest stockholders aka the waltons are 4 of the top 15 richest people in the world. Does it actually make sense to give 4 of the richest people in the world more money

Large multinationals pay one person low wages to work larger plots of land that at one time sustained multiple families

Oil companies take money. What more do you want me to say why the fuck are we giving them money oil is going to run out someday why arent we investing in something else.

And average=middle; 60,000=middle; 100,000=/=middle; 100,000=upper middle

You family may be above average in wealth but you little boy are below average in rationalization and most likely intelligence

My bro is a 2nd mate for an oil company my neighbor is a mooring master another is a harbor pilot. And guess what the oil companies are constantly lobbying congress to ease the restrictions on foreign flag ships.Why? because you can pay foreigners less. Dont believe me Senator McCain tried to pass a bill that would have allowed for that to happen eliminating many high paying job that goes to americans feel free to look it up.(Why do you think the unions for the sailors supported obama in the election)

Why are you showing loyalty to these big companies they show no loyalty to you
