Kwanzaa

Today my math teacher, who is actually quite the intellectual, said something totally ignant;

"Now, this might be a really cynical outlook, but I think that kwanzaa was designed for the prison population"

This didn't offend me so much as it stunned me that it was such a painfully ignorant statement. While even if I was black I probably wouldnt celebrate kwanzaa, I was still blown away that he would say that. Just figured I'd share; Anyone else seeing more squirrelly shit around the holidays?

My only issue is people pussy footing around the whole "Merry Christmas" phrase.

"m.... h, happy holidays......"

Dude, I am pretty sure there are Jewish people that celebrate Christmas, there are some Muslims I personally know who celebrate Christmas, and I am an atheist and celebrate Christmas in the standard American fashion (food, football, and family)... who cares?

I agree. I think I am pretty much atheist at this point in my life and I still celebrate Christmas. I feel like christmas shouldn't need to have any religious affiliation. I mean obviously christmas is a christian holiday with the whole story behind it. But that doesn't mean non-religous people can't go out and have a good time and get in the "spirit". Can't we just give each other gifts because it is the nice thing to do? I would hope so

so true. I just talked to a jewish girlfriend of mine who celebrates BOTH! So jealous.

its not just for christians anymore; Im something of an agnostic/taoist, and I think christmas is dope

christmas is two different holidays. super religious people can do the whole Jesus shit... but everyone else can do the whole "buy lots of shit and get a tree and eat a lot" thing... im pretty sure most people who celebrate christmas couldnt give a shit about Jesus and dont even think about him during the holidays. i know i dont.

we were talking in class today about how christmas used to be like new years where adults would just go out and get drunk all night. Somewhere in the 1800's they started to focus the holiday more on children and such.

but then again i wasn't too into the discussion so i could be way out in left field right now

Kwanzaa is quite frankly, not a real holiday. It was created in 1966 during the civil rights movement as a way that afro-americans would supposedly reconnect with their roots. Only it ended up causing divisions, because people saw kwanzaa as putting them being black before everything else. For example, you were black, then you were christian, jewish, etc etc etc. which went against what most believed. The only person who believes it's celebrated widespread is the guy who created it.

Kwanzaa is also pointless now, because it's role is exactly the same as the so called black history month.

anyone else feel a little bit pissed at the ridiculous uproar that would occur at the idea of a white history month, or a special holiday in december for whites only being proposed?

i think about this all the time. its kind of ironic i think. basically, white people backed themselves/ourselves into a corner where everything we do offends people. hahaha

on the whole christmas subject, this is how i look at it. if you celebrate chanukah you are jewish. if you are christmas i have absolutely no idea what you are. get the drift?

I 100% agree. Christmas isn't a Christian holiday anymore. I mean sure, do your god thing if you're like that, but don't bitch at the rest of us for "ruining the spirit of Christmas"
