Traveling with ski equipment?

Do any of you ski travlers just carry on your boots on the plane?  I'm flying to SLC on Delta and I'm hoping just to send my skis in a ski bag and carry on a pack with everything else.

when i went to utah last year, i brought my boots in my dakine heli pro pack onto the plane.  it fit really tight, but the last thing i wanted was to have to rent boots.  Renting skis is fine, but boots are different because not everything fits your foot

yeah, boots on the plane. sucks, sometimes you have to take them outta the bag to get em to fit overhead, but its worth it.

i don't understand why anyone thinks it's a hassle to carry them on? just sling em over your shoulder and put them in the overhead bin..real simple not as much of a pain in the ass as the grand scheme of flying is.

the other passengers would shank me if i brought my boots carry-on. i have to squeeze them into checked luggage. they just smell so fucking bad.

hey I travel regularly with my ski gear all over the world and i always carry on my ski boots. airlines are fine with it, i have never run into a problem. i just hang my boots over my backpack. a little tip is make sure you board a early as you can so there is room for it in the overhead, because you dont wont them at your feet on a long flight.

DO NOT CHECK YOUR BOOTS. Carry them over your shoulder as your carry-on. Most airlines allow one carry-on and one personal item (in this case, your boots). Trust me, you don't want to check your boots. If your bags get lost and your boots are in them, you're fucked. No, if you want to make sure that you don't end up in rental boots, definitely carry yours on.

bring a backpack and your boots as a carry on. put backpack with laptop, etc, under the seat in front of you, and put the boots in the overhead.

sorry, as stated in another thread. WATCH THE WEIGHT, of your ski bag. last time i flew with my ski bag it was 51lbs and the broad working the counter put a "caution heavy" tag on it. she would have charged me too, but i dont pay for flights in the first place and there was no way in hell i was paying a heavy baggage fee. and thats what i would have told her.

you just need a boot bag.  you can have a backpack as one carry-on and your bootbag as well.  you can fit boots above you in almost any plane

k... heres a solution that i find works quite well

step 1: buy an extra large snowboard bag or just a really thick ski bag
step 2: put ALL of your ski shit into it. skis in first, boots second, outerwear, and others.

then you have one oversize for all of your ski gear! (i would check with the airline first to see if they allow that kind of packing because iv heard of some people running into trouble)

I bring my laptop and my goggles in my backpack then strap my helmet to my backpack and carry my ski boots on. Works great.

Oh ya and when i bring my skis i wrap all my outerwear around my skis then shove em into my ski bag.

I fly like every month with all of my ski gear
