does anyone here tele?

im looking into getting some for touring.

in cheap/older used gear whats good? whats not?

can teles power a really wide ski? or is mid 80s-90s the way to go?

bindings... which are shitty?

I tele about half my time and my brother teles, so i'll give you a run down from my point of view

The ski isn't really that different because its tele, so get what ever you'd want to ski alpine. I'd go about 90ish for an all mountain/touring ski
Bindings kind of depends, there are a couple cheaper ones around $150-175ish, and a couple around $300.
The cheaper ones would be the Voile hardwire, and G3 Targa, Black diamond O2
The more expensive ones: Black Diamond 01, 22 Designs Hammerhead, and Bishop bomber
I've heard really good stuff about the Hammerheads, the stiffness of the spring is adjustable, which is nice, because as you get better you will want a stiffer spring.
If you are going to be touring, check out the O1's or G3 Targa T9, or the new 22 designs binding, like the hammerhead with touring capability, they have a touring mode
touring on regular tele bindings without a touring mode is kind of a bitch, but not too hard, because you have resistance in the springs and pivot at the ball of the foot rather than no resistance and a toe pivot
Depending on where you are craigslist can have a whole lot of good tele gear, especially here in boulder

if your looking to tour i would go with the 01 black diamond bindings.
like said above the ski can be whatever you want.
i have black diamond push boots, there amazing.

oh ya, boots, there are four main brands, the big guys scrapa and garmont, and the littler ones, crispi and BD
try them on, seems like people either have a garmont foot or scarpa foot, i don't know much about BD or crispi

1.  You can tele on ANY SKI. The only thing that matters is you ability and preference.

2. Garmonts and BDs fit wider feet. Scarpas and Crispis narrower feet.

3. Hammerheads/HH Axels only binder you will ever need. BD is just too unresponsive

Go cheap to start.  Same rules apply - Boots: fit, fit, fit.  Use whatever ski you'd use for alpine - not a lot of difference from tele to alpine, so find a deal.  Bindings - here's where it gets interesting.  Some are more active than others.  Active bindings are great if you aren't going to tour.

My tele gear:
Boots: Scarpa T1 & T2X boots
Skis:  Movement Akoma, Movement Climax, Volkl Wall (not mounted yet)
Bindings:  Hammerheads - the BEST.  Tried BD02's & Voile 3-pin Hardwire CRB's.  The HH's ski the best for me. 

Tele is a ball and will help your alpine skiing, because you become much more aware of edging & weighting skis when you tele.

Funny i have very wide feet and my last boot was a scarpa t2 and now a crispi xr.
garmont was to narrow for me.

so try the different boots and choose which is the best for you.

sorry for the thread jack

does anyone know where i can rent some tele boots and skis in stratton?

i really want to rent some for a day and try it. i found that when i ski i naturally bend a knee when turning. i feel like i would like teleing, so i wanna give it a shot

^^Can't help you on your rental dilemma, but tele is a blast.  It's relly cool out here in the Midwest, since it can make tiny hills seem a little bit bigger...

If you wear a 27.0 boot, let me know.  I'm selling some Scarpa T2X's that I wore 4 times.  I'm sticking with my T1's.

To turn to the right:
Alpine: Right ski moves forward. 
Tele: Right ski moves back. 

It's kinda opposite, and on Teles you weight is about 50/50 on both skis (I think it's like 80/20 or something on Alpines)

Also, your supposed to bend your knee when turning on both Alpine and Tele, I'm not sure what your getting at.

Bummer! Only bad part besides your cash shortage -- the sizes for Scarpa brek on the whole size, so the 26.5/27 are the same shell size. Most alpine boots would be 27/27.5. Weird...I'm not sure why they do that. Rockin boot though. Lots of tele-freeriders run these. For those wondering, they're going for $250. No ad up here, but take a look on thr Gear Swap on TGR, or check out the Minneapolis craigslist under "sporting goods" and "Scarpa". Tele is a blast though. If you think you're a kickass alpiner, try tele. It's very humbling when you get started, and totally makes you go back to the basics and think about what makes skis work. No training heels to rely upon... ;)

skiing park, powder, jibbing, telecross

i still love them the best binding i was skiing on!!

and skis probobly an armada ski arv!!

Hammerheads kill it all around for sure. Maybe not the best touring, but I don't tour anyway. It's all about the down for me. I live in MN though, so it kinda has to be. :) I wish I had something releasable at times, but l try not to put myself in bad situations too often. If NTN ever gets all the kinks worked out, I'll probably give them a shot.

So i teled when i went a couple weekends ago

i had a shit load of fun, although it took to the end of the day to really figure it out. I was getting my front foot out but my bent foot wasnt parallel, and i would end up with my skis almost perpendicular. then i finally figured out how to keep them parallel but the day was over by then.

i will definitely try it again

I got mounted my old k2 public enemy's with some hammerheads which are probably the 2nd best if not the best tele binding you can get, and they are pratically unbreakable, and they could prolly power the hellbents. pm me if you have anymore questions about tele in the park.

Just dont get the 3 pin bindings. and I would suggest getting a sturdy 4 buckel boot.
