just yesterday I set a spin off a booter and spotted something right on the landing, as I came around I realized it was someone's pole and landed directly on that bitch. Thank God someone got the fuck up out of there and waited for it to be clear.
But there was that "Oh Shit" moment where i thought I was gonna crush someone. Not really super-scary but enough to make yoour heart miss a beat
First hit of the day, I went for a jump with a really harsh knuckle. It only looked like it was 50ft or so but it turned out to be close to 60. Landed on the up-slope and rag dolled the whole way down the landing. The first thing I thought of was THall's Chad's Gap fall. Anyway, I look up the hill and try to get my skis, and I see my friend soaring over me. He ended up overshooting the thing bad, landing on his face and giving his skis a nice rocker tip.
I got a couple
1. It was my friends first time at my home mountain and he is pretty good and he wanted to follow me in for the speed of the jumps. I said it was pretty much two turns and go for it, Problem is my old skis were so slow and he had a nice fresh pair of skis so when he hit it he overshoot major and just hit the flat below the landing. I said to myself "fuck I just knocked my friend out" He was still lying down not moving so I put my skis infront of the jump went down to see him and his eyes were closed " Dude you O.K?" Soon after that he opens his eyes up and he was O.K but I insisted we went to the hosptial and check for internal bleeding or anything. He ended up just getting a huge bruise on his side and a really sore back and neck.
2. Happened to myself. We were night skiing and the park just got a new 45ft which is pretty big for the north east. Anyway nobody want to hit and the wind was constant coming right at us as we ran up the jump. Me being the first one who wants to hit it I drop in and get going as I'm about to go off the jump a huge gust of wind blew and I lost some of my speed and I could not abort so I just threw myself off. Cased it hard and my knees went straight into my face, broke my lens and gave me two nice black eyes and a really sore neck for the next week. I will know never hit anything first I will always wait for someone to go ahead and do it themselfs.
One time last year, it was a really icy day and the ski patrol was to lazy to scope out all the park features before they opened up the half pipe. So I come bombing down the pipe just doing little 180s and tail grabs and such, and I see a little lip at the end of the pipe, and I thought that it would be fun to hit. So i come hauling ass down towards it, with no idea that there were massive chunks of ice. I come flying off the edge, and of course, with my terrible luck, colide femur first into the biggest one. I split it in half and go tumbling for a couple yards, but the pain dosent hit untill i stand up. Luckily, my cousin saw me go down and calls the ski patrol. Of course they take their good old time getting there. When i finally get to the lodge, they tell me that i didnt brake my femur, just bruised it alot. i had a MASSIVE like, 7x8 bruise on my right thigh for like a month. It hurt like a bitch to sit down...
1. This happened to a friend but never the less, it was the gnarliest slam i've seen live. It was near the end of the season but we had gotten some good snow, so we decided to try inverts for the first time. My friend was going for a backflip. The first half of the trick looked like it was going well, until he got upside down. In a word or two, he panicked. He got scared and started looking to the side. This only succeeded in stopping his flip and starting a spin. It was at this point that I realize he was fucked. He ended up falling on his shoulder and getting some severe whiplash, but overall, it could have been alot worse. But while it was happening, I was scared out of my mind for him.
2. This one was me. we had gotten some good snow, again, and were hopping some cliffs. Long story short, my ski got caught on a branch and I pitched forward onto my chest from about a 20 ft drop. Only ended up with some bruised ribs thankfully, but I wasn't able to breath for 2 minutes afterwards. I probably was unconcious at one point. I don't remember.
Last monday i was doing a backflip on this little natural kicker under the lift. I'd already landed 10 - 15 backs on this jump i was just trying to make it look clean and keep my arms at my side.
I landed on my skis just a little bit forward and I dislocated my hip. Ski patrol showed up and started feelin' around to see what happened. She felt my hip and was like "yep, that feels like a femur." I thought i broke my femur, a definate season ender but a painful tobogan and ambulance ride later i found it was a dislocated hip. I should be back in action within a month hopefully.
skiing in Gstaad 2 years ago (not my choice of resorts, but better than nothing). dropped into a long alpine meadow expecting to meet up with a trail that snaked below me. I must have been way to the side because I reached the woods and was faced with a massive hike back to the ridge above me through thigh deep, or a completely unknown run down to the valley. Didn't look that far down by the trail map, and I could see no cliff bands. anyway, after what takes me about 4 times as long as I expected, I pop out on this empty road and have to hoof it back about a mile in ski boots.
The run was really tight amongst conifers, so I couldn't really relax enough to enjoy it. fortuneatly I speak french, and it wasn't a situation right at dusk, but alone, I was still spooked. porbably pretty reckless, but when you know there's a road down there somewhere, its much more tempting thatn a hick
Second day of last year's season at Fernie, popped off a cat track into what looked like some nice snow, landed in about boot deep and instantly hit something under the snow (rock? log? stump? dunno...) but did an instant faceplant at speed before I knew what the hell was happening, body totally pretzelled so much that I kicked myself in the back of the head.
I was lying there in the snow, back hurting like crazy, seeing all these silver dots burst in my vision... for a moment I was sure I'd broken my back, I didn't want to even try and move cos I was so scared that I wouldn't be able to. The relief when everything still worked was pretty awesome though.
