Mounting Dilema

 I know there has been many threads about this, so I seachbarred it and didn't get a very definate answer.

So, I have the line spirals mounted with the Sth 12's. I mounted them at center, beacase the are symmetrical and all. But I went up in northern MI yesterday, and there was some decent pow in the trees, good for MI. I could definatly tell that I had a lot more back end to push down on just to get through it all. But then we went in the park and they spun like a dream. So I am wondering, what would you guys do if you had this situation? I thought about getting the schizo's and then I cried when I seen how much they were.

Spark notes: Would you re-mount them, even though there is not much pow in MI? Or would you just leave them and deal with it.

Deal with it. At the end of the year, if you decide you would rather sacrifice swing weight for easier pow skiing, get them mounted a bit farther back.

Why would you even consider mounting a symmetrical park ski anywhere else but center? It would totally defeat the purpose.

anthems are a SYMMETRICAL PARK ski. i wouldnt even think about mounting them back. if you wanna ski pow, then get a pow ski.

And to Big_spence, I am not an idiot I know they are a SYMMETRICAL PARK SKI, but I don't stay in the park everytime I go skiing. Unlike a lot of people on this site I like to challenge myself in other things except the park. Is that so crazy you have to be a dick about it. Also sorry I dont have the money to buy pow skis, because I actually pay for all my stuff, not saying any of you guys don't. I thought it was a legit question to ask but I guess not.

then why did you buy a park specific ski? there's plenty of all mountain skis you can choose from (i.e. chronic etc)

Then why did you buy the most specific park ski on the market? It's designed entirely for balance, not flotation or powder skiing.

Which suggests that you are, in fact, an idiot. If you don't spend all your time in the park, buy ANY OTHER ski apart from Line Spirals. Literally, any other ski. Even a thinner ski with a more progressive sidecut and tip-tail width differential would be better

Here's my experience with anthems, they were my only pair of skis last year while I was skiing at Park City and Snowbird. I actually skied some pretty deep stuff (12-30") in these and they are better than a lot of other park skis in the pow. They also did exactly what I needed them to do in the park. It can be done, and you won't even get as much pow as I skied in them. You're fine.

On a contradicting note, I decided to buy pow skis and park skis this year.

Just go for more of an allround ski like the chronic or armada alpha, you can get away with mounting them a little back as they are more stable that way, and they arent symmetrical.

As for now, just put up with it, dont ruin all the days of park riding for the possible few where there is a chance of pow, just have fun with it.

It's simply not a legitimate question. They are park specific and symmetrical, so basically it would be like center mounting a slalom ski, completely useless. Idon't wanna be a dick about it, but it's so obvious, that askin the question is borderline retarded, sorry.

What is with the elitist attitude on newschoolers? Everyone thinks they know fuck-all about skis and skiing, when in fact most of the shit spewed on here is just regurgitated from what is read in gear talk. You don't NEED pow skis to ski pow. You don't NEED park specific skis to ski park.

im just going to say that my last two days skiing were pow days in the woods on center mounted volkl walls. i wasnt even fully used to the skis yet since they are new this year. you should definitely be able to get used to the skis for powder pretty quickly if youre a decent skier.

No, it's not fucking wrong. I never said you NEEDED park skis to ski park, nor did i say that you NEED pow skis to ski pow. I said that the anthem is a PARK SPECIFIC SYMMETRICAL ski, which it is, and therefore mounting them anything other than center would, like someone else said, defeat the purpose of the ski. Of course you can ski pow on your center mounted symmetrical ski, i do it all the time, a pow ski would just be much better.

Since you seem to think that you know fuck-all about skis and skiing, perhaps you could enlighten us with something a bit more technical, or just well argued than the pile of spew you just presented us with?

I'll give you that completely useless was a strong term, but it doesn't change the fact that it would be pretty friggin stupid to re-mount your symmetrical park ski to ski powder on it. To me, the answer is a given, they're made for center mounting, so don't mount them any differently, quite simple isn't it?

Thank you for all the advice dick-ish or not, I apprecaite it.

To all the people that said why would you mount them center or whatever, I did mount them center I was just asking if it was a bad idea. And taking a general concenses it seems like it is. That is why I am not doing it. And I am not one of those kids that buy skis cause they look cool, I knew what I wanted and these are the skis that seemed best for me, because they are great for park and they also work a lot of other parts of the hill. I wish I could affored pow skis, if any of you guys want to sell me some in the 161 to 170 range hit me up

the way they are set up right now is for park only. those skis will perform well anywhere. re mount the bindings for free ride

just because a ski is symmetrical doesn't mean it has the same flex patterns on both ends of the ski. There are plenty of deep pow skis that are symmetrical and can be mounted back from center, especially if it's a touring setup

1. These are Anthems. They do have symmetrical flex fucktard.
2. Far from a deep pow ski, and yes I know man symmetrical skis have different mounting points. The Moment Reno Rockers for example. I know the Anthems are not because I have a pair.
3. These are far from a touring set up.

So seems you're the one who doesn't know a whole lot.

everyone likes their skis different, some like skis centered others like them a couple cm's back. there are obviously people out there that feel that their anthems should be mounted back from center or else this thread wouldn't exist.

Volkl Chopsticks are. But their flex isn't symmetrical, so they're not comparable to the Anthem at all.

It doesn't say on their website, but I've flexed them before, and the flex felt even throughout the whole ski.
