Help with hitting a box sideways, hitting a rail, and doing 180's
Can anyone tell me the best and easiest way for a begginnerish intermediate park skier to hit a box sideways and hit a rail. Also can u help me out with how to do 180's also. Last season i could 180 off of a kicker and hit a box sideways so I just need to know some new methods that are easy. Also I would like to know how to throw a 180 off a roler.
ya just huck it. on rails you will slide out like a million times. and for the 180s on rollers just do what you do on kickers. only faster. its real easy to get 180s dialed.
For doing 180,s just pop and look up hill. If you are looking up hill and you popped then you will land it right. For rail slides, pop onto the rail and keep your shoulders and head staring at the end of the rail. Get a nice athletic stance sideways on the rail with your lower body and try to 'grip' the rail with your front ski. Other than that, just go huck it dude, we all learned and many did before the internet.
You will fall, just keep your balance centered and perpendicular to the rail. Perpendicular is the key. Start with smaller flat boxes at first then whatever you want from there
for sliding a box approach it at a speed you feel comfortable with to start. hop then turn 90 degrees. look straight towards the end of the rail or past the landing. NOWHERE ELSE! you wont slip out this way. its just like sliding on ice with your shoes on. keep your weight even on both feet. 180s just turn your head up hill try them off knuckles of jumps to start. rails same as boxes if there not urban setup. just start with one thats lower than your balls
i remember back when i was learning boxes and rails, i figured out that confidence is key. but actually if your confident and put pressure on your forward foot (not too much) youll be fine. but if you dont think you can do it youll slide out and if you think you can youll be fine.
the point its:
~skiing is all in your head, thinking is the only thing that holds you back
I can't ride rails for shit, but I am better at it then I was last year.
During the summer I did the whole kind of monkey see, monkey do thing. What I mean by that is noneeeeeeeee of the people you see in videos, pro or amateur, are hitting rails slow.
And I would sit at the top of the terrain park timid as can be, and then I would creep up to the frickin rail and not even that much speed to clear it sometimes.
Just because I was afraid of falling.
This year I am doing it different...hit it with some speed.
So far I can at least ride a c-box sideways. I think the C-box was way easier to learn on than a funbox though.
every kid runs and slides on ice when they're little, and it's a lot like that. just imagine really slipper ice. i have never seen someone ever catch an edge and fall forwards on a rail their first time, actually, i've only ever seen it happen once and it was with brand new, razor sharp skis. focus on keeping the majority of the weight on your front foot, because it will end up coming out even;y balanced
something that I think works really good for hitting stuff sideways and the like is keeping your weight on your front foot. I ate shit a million times before I started doing this and when I did it stuff just started to click
