My Mom is acting rediculous (skiing related)

It's our annual family ski trip to Colorado and she won't pay for the extra baggage (two bags, one for skis, one for other gear) but will pay for rental skis WTF? Rental skis for 6 days costs over 300 hundred dollars. Two extra bags are still expensive, around $200, but less expensive than renting skis by far. But she refuses to see logic. She argues that they're just skis and bringing extra baggage is a huge hassle and what if they get lost, etc. The trip is on the 23rd, so if anyone has any advice. PLEASE HELP


Sparknotes: Mom would rather pay $300+ to rent skis in Colorado than to pay $200 (roughly) to bring my skis and gear. Advice?

All my friends ask why I pack only one bag. Its because you only need one, for gear. I wear my only pair of jeans and MY FRIEND IS A PRO shirt the whole trip. Generally its just for the weekend, but if it is longer I might bring an extra shirt and boxers.

They didn't used to count skis as an extra bag... as of the last time I flew with my skis this summer, but that could vary airline to airline. And you can carry your boots right onto the plane, they can't charge you for that, people just might give you bad looks in line because of the rank ass smell :)

But yeah, tell your mom she's lacking in the brain cell department and you're sorry she's so slow.

that sucks. maybe argue that all skis are different and you wont have any fun on rented skis cuz it would take you some while to get used to them. if u hit the big park on a ski ur less comfortable with, then the risk of getting injured is higher, and in the worst case, a surgery is expensive.

Nope. United (and likely other airlines) have a special thing for ski/snowboard equipment. 1 bag containing 1 pair of skis and 1 bag containing boots counts as 1 regular piece of checked luggage. Doesn't matter that it's oversize. Doesn't matter that it's actually 2 bags. It counts as 1 regular bag.

So 1 suitcase for your clothes: $25
2 bags with your skis stuff in it: $35
Total cost: $60

not in my experience.  Ive had to use demo skis twice because i broke skis at the end of the season, and then went out west for spring break.  Both in whistler and vail, i got a good pair of demo skis, which worked out well because they did much better in the powder and trees than my park skis would have. the only problem i had was that when i wanted to ski park, all the skis were mounted so far back

i would say bring boots and demo... i rented some demos last year they were so sick i went home and bought them... and most of the time they will store them for you

Milk this situation, look into shops and preorder rentals, like book them ahead of time. If you can't find any talk to her in a stoic emotionless tone, don't raise your voice. People who remain calm and keep their cool, always seem right.. even if there not. Convince her your the one carrying the skis not her. But again get dope rentals, these guys are right. This could be really sick for you.

You just made $1000 bucks from a pawn show to buy new ski's when you get there. Sure, my plan has a couple drawbacks, but fuck it.

seriously though. one big bag. or rent dope powder skis.
