My Mom is acting rediculous (skiing related)

It's our annual family ski trip to Colorado and she won't pay for the extra baggage (two bags, one for skis, one for other gear) but will pay for rental skis WTF? Rental skis for 6 days costs over 300 hundred dollars. Two extra bags are still expensive, around $200, but less expensive than renting skis by far. But she refuses to see logic. She argues that they're just skis and bringing extra baggage is a huge hassle and what if they get lost, etc. The trip is on the 23rd, so if anyone has any advice. PLEASE HELP


Sparknotes: Mom would rather pay $300+ to rent skis in Colorado than to pay $200 (roughly) to bring my skis and gear. Advice?

Don't forget the opportunity cost of having to carry ski bags to the airport, then to the chalet/hotel. If your mom really hates having to carry shit, and is indifferent between her skis and rental skis, that explains it.

How is this even an argument? What doesn't she understand about the fact that 300 is a greater number than 200?  There's gotta be some other aspect that you aren't telling us, or she isn't telling you, because that's just retarded.

Mail your skis. It'll cost like 50 bucks probably.

You can send them to the post office like this

C/O General Delivery
Post office's address

Then when you get there you can pick them up from the post office with you ID. I did this a lot when I was on the Appalachian Trail fro food drops and stuff, so I know for a fact it works.
If yu are worried about it call the post office and tell them whats up. I'm sure they'd be willing to help you out.

The fact that there is more of a chance to forget something, for something to get stolen, etc.

If they get their bag stolen, the cost to replace the equipment im shure would be more than 300$

Plus its not as much for her to watch while checking in, to carry around, to fit in a car, to take to a hotel.

Its obviously right in her mind... Im pretty sure a Forum board of young kids is going to change her mind

i had a similar "won't see logic" scenario with my mom. i got a ps3, and she wouldn't let me hook it up to our 42" plasma because "it was expensive and [she didn't] want it to get a virus". kinda of funny.

but ya, if she won't give in, just hold her to renting you skis and rent some BA powder skis

I bet your mom tries to pack the biggest carry on ever. Its really getting redic, either pay for the extra bag or dont bring so much shit. It took twice as long to get off the airplane last night cause everyone tries to bring giant ass carry-ons and cant get them in/out of the overheads. Our flight was 10 mins late leaving cause the overheads filled up and no one knew what to do with thier giant ass bags.

Solid plan. I do this everytime I fly to go skiing. Shove your skis and poles in there, then surround and pad them with your clothes and various pieces of gear. Strap your helment to your backpack (or whatever else you are carrying on; I usually have my dakine pack) and bring your boots with you as the "small personal item" that you're allowed with your one carry-on. Any extra stuff, like your jacket, just wear on the plane with you and take it off if it gets too hot.

Yeah, I've skied tons of demos.  As long as you check number III on the din setting form, you should be fine.  If the techs adjust them for your weight and skier type and you're still prereleasing, grab a screw driver and crank them down one more setting.  Bindings shouldn't go bad in a season regardless of how much use they get.  Sounds to me like someone didn't adjust your forward pressure right.

Tell her that you actually value a ski trip to CO, and having to rent POS skis would ruin the fuck out of your trip. If my mom did this to me, I wouldn't even go. Try and explain that even demo skis suck, they're most likely not mounted where you want them, plus demo tracks lift the fuck out of your height and they make skis 10x heavier.

Also, you pay good money every year for skis, you pick them out, so you should sure as shit be able to ski them on a ski trip.

I'm flying united with luggage this year and it's seriously $35 to add 2 extra bags 1 with your skis and 1 with your boots. Who the heck is charging you $200 for a bag with skis in it.

skip the bag with your clothes and shit in it. just bring your skis in one bag, and wear all your outerwear and your boots on the plane. stuff underwear and socks into the pockets on your jacket.

just dont even bring shit like pants and shirts. they are for pussies anyway.
